Hello. First I would like to explain that I'm a total newbie with anything that has to do with android. So please bear with me and try to describe things in detail.

Yesterday I was given a samsung gt-s5570 which appeared to me bloated with useless game demos and as I am new they were just standing there making things more confusing.

So as they were there from factory and couldn't be removed I decided that rooting can't be that hard since so many people seem to do it. So I followed the instructions I found on youtube and rooted it. The truth without really understanding the whole process. It worked and I removed few things that application remover showed as removable while backing them up with titanium. But then when I connected the phone to my pc using kies it offered an update which I tried to do and failed because of some problem with the driver.

Then I thought that maybe the update for the root was a bit old and so I tried to do it again with root genius because it was the newest listing I could find and thought that maybe it would also update the phone.

Anyway I did it and initially it appeared it worked but during an update of kinguser it suddenly switched off and started rebooting and switching off and rebooting again endlessly.

I tried to clear the cache but nothing, so I did a factory reset that again didn't resolve the issue. At this point I thought I had bricked it. Then I tried again to update it with kies which failed and did one more factory reset which seemed like it worked!

Of course all the applications I had removed where not there, nor any other apps I had downloaded apart from Kinguser & Superuser. The test showed it was still rooted but titanium didn't work and gave the message:
"Busybox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root: "whoami" reports "whoami: unknown uid 10051" instead of uid 0. I think your "Superuser Whitelist" system app does not work. Please check with your ROM provider."

So I went to update Superuser and during the process the phone again switched off automatically and rebooted. After that titanium seems to work and it hasn't switched off again since but I keep thinking that I may have put things in the wrong way out of ignorance. Do you have any suggestion of how to check that things are in place? Also what do I do with the firmware update offered by kies?

Sounds like you're rooted then but if you take an official update it will remove root

Do I need both kinguser and superuser? I'm not even sure what they do. They came together with the rootings. Should I expect more crashes? In other words is it common to have your phone automatically switched off? Thanks

Nah rooting shouldn't cause any issues like that mate.
I don't know what kinguser is but yeah you should keep superuser

I get again the message from titanium: "Busybox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root. There's something wrong with your "su" binary and/or "Superuser" app. Please try to root your device again."

I only installed docs to go, WPS, system tuner and removed quickOffice. What do you suggest. I kind of fear to fall again into the loop of rebooting.

EDIT: Apparently titanium needs sometimes to reboot in order to remove some pre-installed apps. I un-rooted and re-rooted and the "su" problem disappeared. Let's cross fingers.
