I need some help

SOMEHOW a contact has been changed, so messages from one person says it's from another. Even more so the name it has been changed to is not even a contact on my phone but a contact in my gmail list. So my question is how can I find the original NUMBER of the person that I receive the messages from. Where is it stored in my phone? All I can get is a name and its not even the right name. Have no idea how it was changed.

Thanks for any help

If you are using the default messaging app, then open the conversation and long-press on one of the messages you received. It should show you the details like time sent and number sending it. If you are sure this is not who sent it, then either your database is corrupt and you might have to factory reset to wipe it, or somebody is screwing with you. Since text messages are handled over the mobile connection, you should be able to see the details on the carrier's website when you log into your account.
