Help I really liked my S5 UNTIL...

I've tried them all. No luck. I seems S5 is unable to play most video files larger than 1gb. Also, avi's wont play. Mx, video player, bsplayer, different codec apps from play store etc, etc... nothing solves the problem. If the camera wasn't so good I'd take this lemon back fast.

No. I think there's something with kit-kat that is causing the problem. A shame because I really enjoy watching my videos while flying. I guess I'll just have to designate my old S4 as my dedicated video player. For me, the S5 is a lost cause as far as videos are concerned. Here's hoping an update will fix the problem of playing videos from an sd card.

Yes. It's miserable as well. (for playing from the sd card). I'm starting to think there's some severe limitations with kit-kat compatibility with sd cards. I've tried 15 different sd cards ranging from dirt cheap to very expensive and the results are always the same. The sames sd cards (and videos) play flawlessly on both of my pcs and my old S4. It seems the S5 was released with a few 'issues' and one can't really expect an ota update since I'm with tmo.

I don't think it's a KK issue maybe a Sammy issue. I used a few devices with sd cards with movies on sd cards and watched them without issue.. Luckily for you the T-Mobile variant has an unlocked bootloader so rooting shouldn't be an issue or flashing a different firmware via Kies...
It says it's incompatible with my device.
A 'sammy issue' was my 2nd guess. A real bummer to have such a great display in a phone that won't keep me entertained on long flights as most of my movies are over 700mb. Thank you for the quick replies.

Just upgraded from an S3 to an S5, my old vids play fine? Maybe it was how you recorded?

No problem whatsoever playing videos from my miscroSD card with the stock player. Although the largest I have on there so far is 312MB.
As I previously stated, my videos play flawlessly on my pc, my Mac, my old S3 and S4 from the same card. 'how I recorded it'? Really?

It does seem that way. Looks like it's time for me to return this lemon for replacement. Oh well, that's the chance you take when you're 1st in line to buy something when it first comes to market. I will wait several months next time.
something tells me it's not the phone and returning it for a replacement may not fix the issue. it's very possible something weird happened with encoding of the vids when they were recorded or something is wrong with the sdcard.
i've transferred vids from one sdcard to the next for the past 6 years and i have yet to have an issue with a new phone not playing vids recorded on the previous phone. regardless of vid size and os platform.
if the vids are important i'd suggest saving them to your computer for safe keeping.
