Root I rootriumphacked my phone, now what?

Thanks, first of all, to everyone who has posted any of the hundreds of posts I've been reading, figuring this out. I moved some stuff to SD, removed some bloatware, and already have seen system performance improvements, so rooting for me so far has been awesome. I am looking at roms next, miui is kinda sounding nice but I had some questions. I saw something about installing kernels, was wondering if its necessary, recommended, or optional.. Cpu tweaks, worth it? How?! Memory boosts, connection improvement, cache clears, task killing, etc.. I feel like these are all areas that I can improve on more now, but what are my options? Basically, I would love to hear about how people have tweaked their triumphs, so I have a better idea what is out there for my new toy =)

Currently you do have a lot of options: First off, roms; all the 2.3 gingerbread roms work great, such as MIUI or CM7, as you mentioned, and you should try them yourself, as long as you have clockworkmod recovery installed, and the basic knowledge on how to install roms, so try different roms and see which you like, to answer your other question, CPU hacks or kernals are not necessary, however they can be useful, for example if you overclock your phone to 1.8 or 2.0 GHZ, it can easily harm your phone, so make sure you READ INSTRUCTIONS AND BE CAREFUL! Hope this helped!

Well you got the 2 top dogs Miui and CM7

Kernels = how the system runs, most roms come with one built in so you shouldnt need to play with it

CPU tweaks = are also built into roms but unless you having trouble with a game or something you shouldnt need to play with it cause the rom will be faster then stock already

the custom rom will change how the logs are saved so you shouldnt have the memory low issues, altho some people have reported still getting them sometimes but it doesnt happen anywhere near as fast as it does on stock

the custom rom also depending on which will probly have the i think its called 99 memory mod or something, almost doubles your internal memorys storage abilities

custom roms also usually have the 1% battery mod which causes massive battery improvments

i personally never used miui, i use CM7 G60Style R0.10, ive deleted ALL bloatware lol im only using 83mb of internal memory outta almost 1gb

i keep my cpu at the custom roms stock settings

and ive never had a memory issue, and the longest my battery has made it on 1 charge was 3 days

Thanks for the info, this is going to be fun, I know it. =)

i would highly highly suggest looking at Minus5252 youtube videos, he has videos for this phone and basically shows step by step how to do most things on this site

also when choosing your rom look on the roms page for any specific insturctions that may vary from rom to rom

if your thinking of going custom rom, first step would be installing ClockworkMod Recovery, i would read the insturctions on the cwm for triumph page and watch minus video on how to install it, the video is of installing an older cwm but the directions should remain the same

after installing cwm recovery sucessfully step 2 would be immediatley create a Nandroid backup in cwm so youll have a Complete Backup of your stock device, just in case reasons lol

after all this things are done, you'll be prepared to start down the custom rom road

it seems very difficult and scary at first, but after you get everything down youll be like this was so easy idk y i didnt just do it earlier lol

I learned with my old OV to stay away from ALPHA build ROMS. Sometimes, if you're new to custom roms, you can get into trouble quickly with these alphas. They tend to have things that DON'T work more than things that do. That's why they're a work in progress. Most of the ICS or MIUI builds tends to be alpha or beta builds. Do your research carefully with those. Most all CM7 or Gingerbread flavored builds are considered to be "stable" builds for the most part. The devs working on these will list any issues that are ongoing. Research is a must here as well. Look at builds that have a big following, a good rating, and good continuing dev support & feedback. Read thru what other loaders
are saying about their experiences both good & bad. Choose a ROM with clear, concise install instructions & links to all the extra downloads you may need to go with your new ROM. If they are really devoted to the quality of the user experience, you'll enjoy your choice in a custom ROM. Research well, good luck.

Thanks again for your help everyone, I couldn't have figured this out sans bookmarking this forum... So far I haven't done my CWM install, backup, or flashed a new ROM, of course. I am trying to get a good stable rooted but stock build that runs how I like before taking the leap, though CWM is DL'd n waiting. Ran into a hilarious newb mistake, and didn't have busybox for the first day and a half of root, and at first all was well, slowly I ran in widget issues, they all started disappearing, I reboot, and all my settings, background folders widgets etc, gone, the activation program is telling me to call VM to set up my account, was wild, busybox and a lil patience cleared it all up though, lol. A lil later I'll post what apps n changes I have done so far, for feedbacks sake, and for the next newb to stumble in here trying to learn like I just did.

99 toolbox <—freaking awesome, may be able to remove some of the following programs after further usage reveals just how awesome it is.
App quarantine, also nice, questions relating below..
busybox, a must have, and that is literal, not just recommended, lol
droidsail app 2 sd, great program, may be replaced by 99 if its app2sd function is as good
root uninstall apk, same as above
es file explorer, ditto, again
superuser pro, of course

As I said, still running froyo 2.2.2, with go launcher running over it so I can customize everything more, and my tentative removal and moving around of system apps has gained me 30 - 40 megs of ram, on average. All in all, I am very pleased with the mods so far, and feel the setup is good and ready to back up, so I can play with other ROMs and see how much more I can do with this silly little device =)

Cm7 is fun fun fun, I'd try both miui and a cm7, read about your options, and look at some screenshots, shoot me a message if you need help

So much to learn, try, do! Before I back up and go down the next rabbit hole though, a few troubleshooting questions...

1. Ever since my newb episode without busybox, every reboot results in me having to reset swiftkey as my input, reallow my lockscreen app its duties, reassign gosms as my text engine, few other little things, is this because I have them on my sd card? Not a big deal but worth a mention.
2. Has there been a list compiled of what apps are safe to remove from our phone? Where is this magical creation!?
3. I want to learn more about how to keep Google, play store, and the browser, others maybe, from self launching and pissing me off, without an outright quarantine..

Think that is all for now, thanks again folks, it's greatly appreciated. =)

1. some thing like widgets and some apps themselves will work on the SD card but actually prefer to be on the phone, some wont work at all if placed on the sd card

2. there is a small list somewhere on this site, i cant remember where, if i happen to see it ill post a link for ya

3. certain things you cant/shouldnt stop from self launching, google play is one of them, itll check for app updates and such, then itll sit in the cache where its basically paused, not taking any resources , if you try and kill it with a task killer or something itll just restart its process over again and again until it finishes, the phone itself has a built in app manager that caches, kills, or pauses apps not in use, from my personal experiences custom roms manage the app better
