I see not bowling threads...

It was fifty years ago that my wife and I were avid bowlers. We bowled with another couple every chance we had. It was our affordable entertainment. It evolved into a night out of bowling and dinner somewhere. That was okay too until we both started having children. The trifecta of bowling, dinner, and baby sitter priced the evenings out of range for the poor working man. It wasn't just the price of bowling for it was reasonable. Bowling is not reasonable nowadays. And playing any game that's time metered is insane. A game takes as long as it takes. I understand that the house doesn't want a group camped out on a lane and bowling now and then but on the clock ruined it for me. I don't want to roll my ball as the rack of pins is being set to get my game completed before I run out of time. Surely the clock nonsense isn't in place during league play and is only an open bowling gouge.

I tell people that I used to bowl. And golf. I bowled and golfed and I was fairly good at both of them... I'd bowl a 230 average and golf about a 72. Then I got married, had kids... over time, something odd happened. My golf and bowling scores reversed so I was bowling a 72 and golfing a 230 (don't laugh: I got my money out of the greens fees because I was out there all day long). I even had a polo shirt with "PLAY THROUGH" embroidered on the back. Finally the PGA sent me a letter, banning me from any course without a windmill on it. That's when I decided it was time to stop both of them. I tell people after I got married, I gave up my balls.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
