Help I think its dead.

I recently got a Galaxy Note 10.1, so while getting to know it better, my Nexus 7 Ran out of battery. I let it go a couple days with out charging, I guess this was a bad idea.

Today before I went out, I plugged the thing in, got back a few hours later and noted the screen looked like the LED light was on and the screen was black. I unplugged it, seen the LEDs go off, tried to power it up and nothing. Tried Volume up + power. Noting. Volume down + power, nothing. Plugged it back it and the screen black and it flashed about once a second. Power button nothing, ever so often a few white lines and specs randomly showed, the screen flashed and it refused to power up.

At this point, I don't care. I don't have really anything importent on it. No games really or in app purchases. I am really disappointed. This is the second nexus device that I have had. It worked fine up till now, though I did have some speed issues and other strangeness but I think it was tweetcaster. I only flashed a rom once, only to flash back to stock and remained unlocked and rooted since I got it. Probably less then 6 months ago. When I got it shortly before they discoed the 8gb model and dropped the price on the 16. I missed out on the rebate.

The other nexus device was the galaxy nexus on verizon. Both really soured me. The N7 kind of really is the icing on the dissatisfaction cake.

I may replace it with another 7" tablet since the Note 10.1 is a bit too big.

I will keep trying to get the thing to boot but this and other recent problems I have been having with android devices (mostly with rooting and such).... ugh....:(

Leave it plugged in and hold power for like a minute. Worth a shot.

Having the battery dead for days can do damage to it.

Its actually pretty easy to remove.

That'll happen to any battery that gets low and stays low, its not really non_removable related.

The bad side about non removable batteries. I heard of a one x that had this issue.

Removable or not, you should never let the battery stay flat for an extended amount of time. Having no charge destroys Li-Ion batteries at the chemical level.

I left it to sit for a while, plugged it back in, the device booted, showed google, showed the nexus logo then black screen with "weird static" (white lines and flashes here in there, kind of like television snow. Kind of.) and backlight on.

I will keep trying later to see if it will boot all the way.

Edit:

Got the battery icon to pop up with animation charging for a moment then black screen and backlight on.

Another update. I got it to boot completely, but battery totally dead, it shut off almost immediately after booting even though its plugged in.

Poor charging cable? Bad USB port? Battery toast? Well I got the battery icon showing its charging so I will give it a bit...

Its alive! Posting from it now. I think the charging cable or USB port may be having some issues. But at least its powered up now :)

Glad you got it working. I did have something similar once. The backlight was lid but black screen and nothing seemed to work - like a previous poster said - it took almost a minute of pushing the power button before the thing finally rebooted - in my case though it wasn't related to battery - just an odd hung device :)

Are you charging from a PC or from an AC outlet?

The power supplied from a PC/laptop is too little to charge the N7... it will take forever. But using an AC outlet, you can have it fully charged in an hour or two.

I absolutely HATE the Nexus 7 battery. It takes forever to fully charge, and if you do let it run down, it puts you through hell like the OP stated. Shitty battery and slowwwwwwwww charging (takes forever). Coming from the iPhone, I'm definitely not used to this, though having my Nexus 7 since launch date (July 14th), I guess I have no choice to get used to this. I'll have a full charge on it (100%), some days I won't be using my Nexus 7, maybe 2 days in a row, and I go to turn it on, and the battery is dead, 0% charge. Battery sucks.

I use a wall outlet, and mine never fully charges in an hour or two.

mine fully charges .. using the charger that came with it.. on the wall outlet.. within 3.5 hours.

why not plug it in at night.. while you sleep?

it sounds like you have apps that are keeping your tablet from sleeping. you should check your battery usage statistics in settings > battery, and tap on the graph at the top. is the Awake line a solid blue bar, or does blue on Awake coincide with blue on Screen on?

i can leave my N7 alone for two days and the battery % will drop less than 5%, and overall, i get anywhere from 6-9 hours of screen-on time, depending on usage. also, it charges from 10% to 100% in about 3 hours, which isn't that bad for a ~4,300 mah battery.

I actually measured the (indicated) charge as a function of time and graphed it in Excel to see how fast the tablet charged (I really must get out more :-).

From near zero I found the tablet charged at around 30-35% per hour, but the charging rate started slowing above about 75% charge. It got to around 90% charge in three hours but took about another hour to add the last 10%.

With wireless off my N7 loses only a few percent charge overnight. If you have wireless on and some app happily synching at the least excuse you will run the battery down quickly, and the same rogue app may be responsible for the slow charging.
