I WANT TO STOP OPERATING SYSTEM UPDATES NOTE 3

I read in another forum to try this...

"Just Disable "Software Update" from settings by going to
Setting > Application manager > All apps > "Software update" click " Disable".
Then click "Force Stop" and clear Cache , Data."

My Note 3 doesn't have "Software update" ... I have "Samsung Updates". Is that it? and when I clicked clear data on that it said "All of this applications data will be deleted permanently. This includes all files and settings, accounts and data bases etc." I was afraid to continue without advice.

Any help please. Don't want to root a new phone.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Samsung Apps refers to updating the apps that are pre-installed on your phone, not the OS. The only way to stop the OS update involves rooting your phone, as far as I know.

I'm curious though- the current update is pretty insignificant, and most people that want to stop it are trying to avoid losing root access; so if you don't want to root your phone, why don't you want the update?

Samsung Updates are for Samsung apps from Samsung's store. If you don't use them, you can disable that too, but for the OS updates, you'll need to disable "software update". If you don't see it under the "all" tab in the application manager, then it might be disabled already.

To stop it checking for updates to Android/the system OS automatically go to settings>general>about device>software updates and you can configure it from there.

Samsung apps can be configured individually from settings>General >application manager.

If you're talking OTA your carrier may make that impossible. Verizon for example uses SDM.APK that is not able to be 'turned off' or disabled without root. if you're one of the unlucky fools who got the latest firmware update (known as the 'B' firmware) your phone won't be rootable anymore from any of the known methods (such as Towel Root). and if Google pushes Lollipop and its horrible TouchWiz theme (i prefer the TW theme it is using now and one i've become accustomed to) you're getting it eventually on Verizon. I'm not sure of AT&T or others, but you can tap 'later' until you're blue in the fingers and two weeks later you're going to get the update whether you like it or not.

SDM.APK replaces the standard Samsung 'Software Update' and there is no option to disable automatic checks
