I wonder what name google will use?

I see rumors already of the Nexus 6 phone. So, if google makes another phone after the Nexus 6, I wonder what they'll call it? Nexus 7 is already kinda taken :-).

Nexus 5 gen. 2 and then Nexus 5 gen. 3? You know, like the Nexus 7 gen. 1 (2012) and gen. 2 (2013).

Probably too confusing to the mainstream phone market, I suppose.

I'm hoping they don't make a 6 inch phone and call it a Nexus 6, because I most likely wouldn't be getting it.

Maybe they'll start calling them "Droid".

Some more suggestions, courtesy of Thesaurus.com

"Main Entry: nexus
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: middle
Synonyms: center, connection, core, link, network, tie, union"

I think this other definition is better:

"a connection or series of connections linking two or more things".

Of course, a name like that would be a bit unwieldy!

I'm sure they'll have no problem coming up with another model line name when the time comes :) Maybe they'll have a contest.

I personally think there will be no more after the nexus 6, and we'll just be left with the GPE lineup of phones as the replacement for stock android on phones and quick updates.

Will be a shame because I've gotten used to paying not that much money for a great phone.

I'm wondering if Google might not just go ahead and cut a deal with the GPE manufacturers to subsidize the price. Less R&D investment for them but would produce similar results as a Nexus.

Probably just wishful thinking on my part.;)

This year will be Nexus 5 (2014), or simply the "new" Nexus 5.

I don't see them going with 6" screens, and the naming convention is now all in sync with the screen size being the name. Nexus 5, 7, and 10 all reflect the screen size.

I don't see it going anywhere. Its been all rumors, nothing concrete yet... no? The rumor mill for android devices is robust and usually way off base. Take anything you hear with a grain of salt.

I'm still not sold on this. The tablets match name to screen size while the phones are imprecise matches to approximate screen size but perfect matches to sequence number. I obviously don't know either, but I don't think it's a sure bet. ;-)

I just think its an incredibly easy way for Google to bypass the very question that was posed by this thread.

It also keeps the naming system simple

I agree. I just am not sure Google planned it that way up to now. ;)
