What do you guys think about the iBoobs situation? Should Google have restricted the app as highly mature? And does Google's action go backwards on their 'Open Source Project' and make them only less closed than Apple?

My opinion is in the comments section of the article by 'Michael'. But my take on this article is that Android's 'Open Source Project' wasn't meant for having just any app in the Market. It's not called the 'Open App Project'. I don't think Apple fanboys understand that 'Open Source' is what it is; the 'source' is 'open'. So manufacturers and developers alike can work on the actual source of Android to make a better user experience. Not develop a porno app and be able to have it in the Market.

So what do you think? Does restricting iBoobs really mean that Android isn't open?

Android is certainly an open OS, but apparently, the market is closed. Open to almost anything unlike Apple that removes perfectly good widget apps because they spoil the user's Apple experience. I do not use iBoobs, but I approve. I just added the word "iBoobs" to my spell checker dictionary.

I think the term "Open Source" says to many people that anything goes. They are confused and they think it means absolutely anything is allowed. I think as soon as Google decides to restrict the apps in the market, they will become Apple and perhaps that is not so bad. With a JB, I can load just about anything nasty I want.

That said, where should the line be drawn? God knows it is virtually impossible to find pornography on the Internet, so perhaps to serve the few, the proud, the horny, we need iBoobs. Apparently quite harmless.

WHat good is it? Just 14 year old boys will be downloading it and the immature men will also.

I think your definition of Open Source software is correct and that it get's mis-understood by many. The Android code is Open Source the Google Market place is for Google to do what ever they want with it. Personally I think it's a bit silly to remove this app, it's not as though the boobs are very realistic in the way they move anyway, it's just a bit of harmless fun. Though saying that the Market place is international and cultures vary widely throughout the world, I live in a county where we have naked women in our newspapers yet other cultures might find it highly offensive.

The end of the day though it's Google's Market place to do with as they see fit. It is the OS that is Open.

It's in the marketplace now. I downloaded it so me and the missus could have a giggle. I'm sure we are just immature, but making CGI boobs bounce around is inherently funny to us.

Open source is free as in freedom - not as in free beer. :)

Software freedom means that markets are free to block any apps they don't want to deal with. But it also means you should be able to go to other markets that will allow those apps.

Restricting sexy apps from the Android Market doesn't make Android less open. The existence of third party app stores and apps are a testament to that.

It's Google right to decide what is accepted in their market and what isn't- Just like it's MiKandi's right to reject non-adult rated apps if we wanted to. In fact, it would be bad for business if Google accepted all 18+ apps. ;)

On a side note, the uncensored iBoobs app isn't available in the Android Market anymore. But guess where you can find it, if you feel so inclined?

lol I love how it has the microsoft 360 achievement alert. I know IOS has an app like the hidden movies app and all you see is a clock. I dont think they should turn down teh apps but what if just had a section that said 18+ and older and had to enter credit card info or somethin like that to prove you were of age...or you were a really horny teenage kid that got ahold of his parents card to watch the dirty on his new toy...
