I didn't know whether I should make a new thread for this , but I just went on the rom's XDA page and I saw one of the best ( phone related ) things ever!

[ROM]01-07-2012 | IceColdSandwich - 8.2 - AOKP | SUMMER EDITION - xda-developers

Personally , I have set up ADW Launcher to look like a tablet interface, but this is great. Although I can see how a 4.2" tablet may not suit everyone, I think it would be really good on the newer >4.6" phones.

ics cold snadwich is a great rom.

if you dont like the the default launcher, try apex or nova. they will work better with ics than adw, launcher pro,or go. :)

I will be putting a link in the ATR guide - thanks though.

I like the fact that, if you have IceColdSandwich, you also have GooManager (which gives notifications when new versions come out) :)

Nice. How do you enable the tablet UI? I'm guessing it's a DPI tweak?

EDIT: Yep, I changed to 120 DPI (from the stock 240) and it changed. I'm not sure how useful it is, but it's something to play around with until my tablet arrives, at least :p

Just saying that ICS has been updated to 8.3.
Unusual seeing as if there's usually an update once a month.

Looking at the changelog, seems to be lots of updates to apps and launchers

Has anyone tried 8.4? An acquaintance of mine in a different forum told me 8.2 was better than 8.3. He has not yet tried 8.4.

Newbie questions?

a)What is the best way to wipe before installing this ROM.
b) Will the recommend system erase 4Ext Recovery?

Something for me to do in August :)

Reboot into recovery:

Perform Nandroid backup - Backup your rom
Wipe cache/Dalvik
Restore factory setting

Then go find that zip and install!!

It shouldn't erase the 4ext recovery as it's a partition. Some ROMS will look for the partition and if not there create it. The best one I saw was the MIUI ROM I'm running on my SGS, it was like installing Linux, formatting, partition sizes etc, before it installed the Zip.

Ice Cold Sandwich runs very smoothly on my phone but I am suffering really bad battery drain with my version 8.5 install while the phone is idle (and I was sleeping myself).

This is after having fully charge with this ROM. Something seems to be keeping the phone awake. The drain is so heavy, I won't be able to keep this long ROM if I cannot resolve it.

Been stock at home because of flooding, but luckily I have power and internet. Gave me plenty of time to read. I think I may have resolved my issue.

I am not sure if it is caused by an app or a kernel issue. I am guessing it might be a combination of the two, but is easily resolved by proper settings.

I read this issue about a different ROM:

I am not sure, but I looked at my screen and noticed a bit of a glimmer. I use an App called Screen Off and Lock by Kateka. It allows you to turn of the screen through a widget or by a long press of the search button. There is a setting in the app, the allows you to delay device locking, which is the reason why I chose this app.

When I used my first screen lock widget on my DHD with the stock 2.2 ROM, after locking with the widget, the screen would wake for a few seconds before locking again. A setting in Screen Off and Lock, "Delay device locking" prevented this.

Looking at my power consumption, I got the idea that my phone did not sleep properly. So i enabled "Delay device locking" in Screen Lock and Off.

Right now phone is up 1:58 and battery is reading 98%. Also battery usage no longer reports that phone being constantly awake.

I guess better advice would be, when you install a custom ROM, add Gapps and nothing else first and see how it is running.

I noticed, with my wifes' GNex, just today, that her screen lock widget causes the phone to wake for a few seconds after being locked. That phones runs Android 4.04 stock. If it has the same issue, it would not affect battery life since that has a SAMOLED display. In any event, replaced it with Screen Off and Lock. No more momentary wake up after locking.

Am a bit disappointed with IColdS 8.5. There are a few scaling issues but I can live with that. The UI and drawer are blazingly fast to manipulate, but the apps and menu's in apps can be pretty slow to load. I feel like it re-launches recently used apps too often. A lot of times app "Window" comes out fast, but is blank for a few seconds as it reloads data.

Chrome also does not work the way it does with a GNex. If you scroll down a long post in this forum, it will load the whole page and you can scroll up and down. On IColdS 8.5, it will load only a portion of the page, and if you scroll all the way down and scroll back up, it reloads the potions of the page you viewed earlier. The stock browser works much better.

I would attribute this memory management keeping too much RAM free. I am not to crazy about the way IColdS 8.5 handles memory. It constantly seems to leave 300MB+ free, but does not cache enough apps.

One person at a local forum told me IColdS 8.2 was the best. The only big draw for ICS to me is the Chrome browser. But with the stock browser working better, having an ICS based ROM is loosing its appeal.

I like the fact that IColdS has plenty of free RAM, but I do not understand why it tries to maintain 300 MB free all the time.

Am using ICS 8.6.1 on the with the Apex launcher. Mainly to see what is different, since I have use Trebuchet and Nova on a SGT with CM9. Is using Trebuchet more efficient than Apex in terms of resource use?

Tried out the tun bfs 10 kernel... Seems good.

The tablet mod ( change font size to huge, tick dual pane support and change 120 dpi) works, and could be cool.....

But, for me, it caused EXTREME lag... I mean, I spent 70 minutes trying to get into rom control, speed up the max CPU ( which helped a bit, but was still laggy) and change the dpi back to 240...

Another thing I found, in the kernel, the smartass and smartass 2 had been tweaked, and the v2 is renamed to brazillian wax....

There is a 'easter egg', at least I think that's what it's called...
Simply mash the Android version under About phone...

Anyone knows what happens if you increase the dp?
