ICE contacts with pattern screen lock?

I just set a pattern lock on my phone (been using the puzzle piece). Suddenly it dawned on me that my ICE contacts are no longer accessible. Of course, by design *nothing* is accessible (except emergency call) until the pattern is entered.

Is there a way to work around this? It's no use having ICE contacts if they can't be seen, but this seems to be a bad trade-off due to a poor design.

That's a good question. I'm not an expert, but the only answer I can think of is to use a lockscreen replacement app that allows shortcuts to whatever apps and make sure there's a shortcut to Contacts. That said, I don't know if any of those work with PIN or pattern locks ...
