Just installed ICS on my hero over the weekend 
[ROM] Glassmacka - Ice Cream Sandwich. -"I'm too old for this shit." (22-11-11) - xda-developers
It's still in the very early stages of development, so it's not quite ready for day to day use yet (lots of bits & pieces arent working, and it runs incredibly slowly at the moment) but it does work, and it's well worth playing around with just to be amazed that it's actually possible.
