Icecream Sandwich deleted multiple language input

ohno

Lurker
So, I bought a tablet with Honeycomb on it a few weeks ago and I was pretty happy. I could input text in multiple languages (I'm bilingual, though English, which is my first and primary language is stronger than my second language). This week, I went online and my OS updated itself to Icecream Sandwich.

It also deleted multiple language text input for when you have english as the selected Language. However, when you select a language other than English, it allows input in both languages. So...I could leave it in my second language and change it back to English whenever I need to change a system setting. However, I would prefer to have my tablet set in English and be able to have an alternate input language able to be selected.

Any ideas on how to do this???

I was so happy with this tablet until it deleted the option...

I am experiencing kind of the same problem. I bought the HTC One X last week, and at startup, I selected Norwegian and Danish as input languages - so I can switch between these two with the language-change button, when typing SMS.

But now I want to add English to the list of input languages, but I cannot find the settings for this.

Wow... just found the setting. If other struggle with the same problem, here is my solution:

From Settings menu, select "language and input". Then, under "Keyboard and input methods" choose "HTC Sense Input" (this is where I blinked several times). Inside there should be a point called "International keyboard", where it is possible to choose all the languages you want to have in the switch list.

My problem was, that in the first-time-setup, I checked the "Toggle among keyboard" box, which prevents the possibility to open settings from the SMS-typing-area.

However, I would prefer to have my tablet set in English and be able to have an alternate input language able to be selected.

I don't know if the Icecream Sandwich is different on tablets than on phones, but I think you could do exactly what you want by setting the "System language" to English (found in the top level of the "Language & keyboard" menu, and then add both primary and secondary language in "HTC Sense Input settings" -> "International keyboards" like I did.
