Help Icon distance adjustment?

Is there a way to adjust the amount of space between widgets/icons on your screen? It seems like half the space is empty space and the apps/widgets are too far apart to maximize space. Is 16 the most you can get on the home screens at one time?

If your running 2.1 then you can have 20 icons on one screen with the SE default home. If your running 1.6...try downloading ADW and that allows you to change the columns and rows on the screen...be careful how much you change them tho as it starts to mess with your widgets. Hope this helps.
