What does a circle with 2 dashes inside mean on my Samsung Note 5? This is an icon located at the top left corner of my phone.

Usually, the upper left area on the notification bar is left for app notifications...if you pull-down on the notification bar (notification shade), it should reveal the corresponding app with additional info.
