Icons disappear from home screen following lollipop upgrade

Since receiving my lollipop upgrade I've noticed that when an app updates itself, its icon disappears from the home screen and has to be put back. Getting kind of irritating. Is it only me? I haven't seen any other posts mention it.

In Play Store | Settings do you have Add Icon to Home screen checked?
It sounds like it was checked in the past and is unchecked now.

I personally do not use Auto-update apps or Add Icon to Home screen. I don't want to gran t permission to others to do it correctly.

I have "Add Icon to Home screen for new apps" checked. However this is not new apps, it is existing apps which are updating, and then disappearing.
I am notified when new updates are available too.

I've seen this before on another phone when the apps were stored on the SD card.
