Icons - Images inside icons are small / tiny

Hey All! I'm new to Android and fumbling my way around. Thanks in advance for your patience.

I've searched all over the interwebs, but can't find a solution, so maybe you can help?

I installed Nova Launcher on my OnePlus One at the recommendation of many smart people here, but I noticed that a ton of the icons for the non-standard apps have tiny little pictures / images within the icons.

Here's an example:

You'll see that the 3 apps (Voicemail, Amazon, OPO Charge) all have tiny images with a big boarder around them. Why?

How do I get the images to fill the icon space like the images for the more popular apps?

Can't see your image, have to be logged-in on that site. Just attach it to the post, that's what I usually do, or put it on Imgur or Photobucket or something.

Looks to me like lazy theming by the icon pack developer

Again, lazy theming because it's not a popular app.

I guess I don't know enough about how all this theming / icon works, but I'd expect that if there isn't a custom icon in the theme pack that the default icon would be used and look the proper size.

I tried a bunch of themes and it seemed this happened with most of them, so maybe I have another odd bug going on.

I don't think it's a bug tbh mate. But nah if the icon isn't themed it usually defaults to a stupid circle or "square of shame' and not the default.
On Nova though you can change the icon (and pack) for individual apps.
Long-press the icon, edit, hit the icon picture, select what icon pack you wanna use, select the icon you wanna use from the pack. (you can select the default icon if you want)

I'm using Nova Launcher and the "Blitz" icon pack.

I'll probably try to find an icon pack that plays nicer with icons that aren't in the pack, but if none of them work I guess I'll just customize / edit them myself.

Any recommendations for an icon pack that plays really nice with Nova and icons that aren't in the pack?
