There is an online manual for the Eris. It's for 1.5, but the notification bar hasn't changed as far as icons go.
However ones on the left side can come from apps, so those can vary.

I have a mystery icon in my notification bar. it's to the left of my locataion icon and it looks like a bluetooth headset not the normal bluetooth icon. I can't figure out wtf it is. any ideas?

Do you have any apps installed that may have an icon in the notification bar? Weather app or something?

is there a way to take a screen shot from the phone itself? my wife thinks the icon looks like an ear.

That is icon for hearing aid compatibility. Go to Menu > Settings > Call > Uncheck Hearing aids to disable.

just kidding, that fixed it. i have no clue how that got turned on and that icon is not listed in the manual with the others so i had no idea. thanks for the help.
