ICS 403 Encryption. what im i doing wrong?

Hello everybody!
I just got my first android device, an Ainol Novo 7 Advanced II Tablet, it has Android 4.0.3 ICS, and its working great.
The thing is, i want to encrypt the tablet (in case it gets stolen or something, you know).
So, following instructions i found somewhere, i did this...

1.- I pluged in the AC charger (so i wouldnt run out of battery midway)

2.- I went to settings->security->Screen Lock and selected Password, this worked fine, now i have to type my password to unlock the screen.

3.- Went to Settings->security->Encrypt tablet, I was warned that this process would take over an hour, that the process should not be interrupted, etc, etc.

4.- I typed in my password when prompted and hit encrypt tablet.

The screen went black, with a green android robot in the center. I jus let it sit there for about 5 (yes FIVE) hours!, but nothing ever happened, whenever i looked at the screen the green robot was just sitting there. no progress bar, no errors, no "im done" notices, no reboot, notnhing.
After five hours, i just pressed the home button, and the normal desktop came in!.
I rebooted the tablet, and i only got asked for my password at the lock screen as before, went to settings again, and the option to encrypt the tablet is still there.
In other words, it dint encrypt anything! but still i got no errors, warnings, of any kind.

Did i miss something? is there something wrong with my tablet?

any input greatly appreciated.

ok, for whatever reason the built in android feature doesnt work. But maybe there is a 3rd party application i can use?
Can anyone recommend a good 3rd party app to do the same thing (full encryption)?
i can root the tablet if needed.

got the exact same problem. little robot, no progress indication whatsoever and nothing after ling wait and hitting "back" button...

any news or help? thanx!

Hi,

exact same problem here. Did the same steps that you did - and nothing except this little green android guy.
Logged the process via logcat and when I clicked the button to start encryption I got this error message:

>> Orig filesystem overlaps crypto footer region. Cannot encrypt in place.

I've searched the Internet for a solution- the only site I found was a topic on rootzwiki.com.

The problem seems to be with the partition of the filesystem of the device affected. There obviously needs to be a minimum of 16kb reserved block at the end of the partition.

The solution that fixed the problem there was to flash the stock recovery of the device and wipe it.

Factory reseting my device didn't help I still get the above error. Maybe someone else has an idea if there's other ways to fix this error.

Any hints greatly appreciated,

Cheers
