ICS and folder creation

jlgs3

Lurker
I was reading about the generic ICS capabilities, and one place was saying that you could create folders of apps simply by dragging one app onto another (and that you could name the folder, etc.).

I don't seem to be able to do this on the S3 -- if I hold the app long enough to drag, it just wants to place it on the home screen -- is there anyway to do that (so I can group my various apps together)??

If it matters, its a Verizon phone.

That is functioning correctly. You cannot create folders in the app drawer, just on the home screen.

That functionality was also stripped out of the S3 by Samsung (don't ask me why). You have to create a folder on a home screen and then you can drop apps into the folder.

Really, that's dumb. Sorry for the misdirect OP.:o

Thanks folks -- seems crazy to have to create the folder, then drag apps to it, but that DOES work if you have the space on the home screen!

Agreed it is pretty lame... I get the feeling it was a "Hey where is the folders.." response "Crap we didnt write that into the UI.... here is a work around"

You CAN create folders in the app drawer ! Go into the app drawer, touch the menu buton, choose edit and drag icons on top of each other ...

Doh ! Got that slightly wrong.

Go into the app drawer, touch the menu buton, touch and hold an app icon and a folder icon will appear at the bottom left of the screen, drag the app on top of the folder icon and release. This will create a folder, you can then drag other icons into the folder or tap the folder and press the + sign. You can also edit the folder name.

Sorry for confusion.

If I had to guess I would assume that it has to with the whole Apple/Samsung lawsuit (iOS did it first).
