ICS App questions

Lurker
I have a Samsung GT-P3110 + ICS + 32GB SD. Not rooted.

I realise there are lots of similar posts about, but none of them actually answer my q's

'App2SD' does not allow me to move any of my 70+ apps/games I have from my device. Also, when looking in Settings>Applications, none of my apps have a 'Move to SD' option.

This problem is very frustrating, I have tried to manually move apps around with no success.

#1: Is this a limitation of ICS, or just the apps I happen to have? Or something else .. ?

#2: Is there a way to manually move apps to the SD card? Not just the .apk, but all the data?

#3: Is there an option to change app's install location either from Play store or indirectly?

#4: What is the '.apk'? Is this an executable, or compressed file, or different? Please explain.

Thanks in advance.

1. It is not a limitation of ICS.

2. The entire app cannot be moved to SD. How much varies, but at least some system files must be installed on the phone for the app to run.

3. Sometimes.

4. An .apk file could be be translated as 'Android package'. It's roughly the Android equivalent to a .rpm or .deb in Linux or .exe in Windows.

It seems that you've choosen only apps who can't be moved to SD card ;)
But most apps have a big part of their data, like maps, docs or dictionaries on the SD card already.

For to move the apps you have to root your phone.

.apk are the (compressed) installation packets of apps. With a file manager like ES File Explorer you could execute an .apk for installing the app.

Ahh, I see, Crashdamage answered already :)
