ICS Available on XDA....is it worth it?

Ok, so there are already a few ICS ROMS available to use on the XDA's developer's section. But my question is....is it worth it? Simply put, you can hardly tell that your running ICS because HTC Sense 3.6 looks so similar. I guess my real question should be, what advantages are there in running ICS? Besides face unlock, I can't really come up with any good any.

I like the Gmail on it. You can also get a senseless ICS. I don't see what you see that is really similar to sense. I do think it's not as fast as some of the other ROMs though. It's nice just to see what is coming for the future.

I like being able to pull down my notifications without unlocking the phone first. Gmail and the Rosie are nice too.

I'm running clean ROM 2.1 and I'm really happy with it as my daily driver. there are some things that take some getting used to, like the position of the Ok/cancel is different. but I love the swithes in the settings menu. Overall I would say its pretty good.

Ok, yeah, I forgot, from the few days I had the Galaxy Nexus, pulling down the notification during lock screen was pretty cool.... but I don't know, I feel like ICS with Sense 3.6 doesn't have that "ooohhh!" factor. Maybe I'm just expecting too much. I should just be happy with what I've got! And I am! I'm running Mik's ROM now.

Has anyone that's installed ICS noticed any differences with Youtube allowing you to pull 720p content? That might be another consideration.

I don't think anyone can blame you for expecting so much. They have built ICS up to be the second coming of Christ in the smartphone world. I think there is bound to be some disappointment for most people once they get around to playing with it. I have seen several post form people that finally got to get their fix of the "pure google experience" with no type developer tweaks or company overlays and they feel that the stock ICS was pretty boring once the "ohh it's a new UI" wore off. I think it's petty interesting what TXGoat said a while back(at least I think it was him..lol). Most people rave about the "pure google experience" on forums and in various comment sections of blogs but then when they get it almost the first thing they do is load up a custom rom or kernal. WTF? Sigh...oh well I guess that's part of us being the wonderfully illogical human beings that we are. As for me I am honestly not feenin for ICS at all. Not that it doesn't have some nice features, but I am still enjoying my phone just the way it is and I can wait for the official ICS release. I think the only thing I am even slightly curious about is wondering if there is a noticeable difference in phone speed with the hardware acceleration included in ICS.

its only natural that you have people that will be let down with ICS no matter what phone it is on. You can't please everyone. The statement about people getting a pure google phone and then putting a custom rom on it are a little misleading. I'm running a "custom rom" on mine however a lot of the custom roms including the one i'm running are actually pure AOSP google with just performance tweaks. I'm running Redemption Rom which is basically bone stock with performance tweaks and i love it.

I'm running Scott's 2.1 ics rom and it is extremely snappy. I had the nexus for a month and I loved pure aosp, but when I put the senseless Rom on here the other night I missed all the sense widgets and then realized I love the way sense looks and operates. when we get an official release I might play with stock ics some more we will see. but sense ics is awesome... oh and so u know most of them are still sense 3.5, I think there are like 2 out there working on 3.6.

also why isn't this in the root section?

I'd guess because people that are pondering going to a rooted ICS are still mostly stock. I'd personally like it here just to get everyone's take on what the benefits are of running ICS as a rom. I'm still curious about how Youtube and other apps behave in ICS. I can't say I'm really ready to tweak not knowing if HTC will then flag your device with a "This phone has been root-haxxored, do not warranty!" annotation.

in regards to this thread being in the ATR section IMO i really think it could go either way. I think unless the op decides he wants it moved that it is probably ok leaving it where it is.

I'd love to run plain-jane ICS on my Rezound.

1. When senseless ICS has some more bugs worked out; and

2. IF I can figure out all the steps to get me from bone stock to running that ROM.

First one seems like it's just a matter of time, heck I'll even donate to keep it moving. Second one still seems pretty daunting. I've read as much as I can and I still glaze over trying to navigate the vast linked reference pages, sites, tutorials, keeping track of utility versions, developer jargon, etc. It might just be too difficult for my brain. :o

YouTube works fine on the 3 different ics roms I've tried.

Does it allow for 720p playback? There was a thread in here about the Youtube app in the stock Rezound that doesn't play 720p. The Youtube app in the Nexus allows for 720p and it's believed because there aren't many 720p phones nor ICS phones that they made the Youtube app in ICS allow for 720p playback.

GUI changes are subjective, but the biggest change I'm looking forward to is improved hardware acceleration / Multicore CPU support and an improved ability to offload tasks to the GPU. To quote Gina Trapani:
"Offloading rendering to the GPU also increases battery life, because GPUs are fixed-function hardware, so they operate at a lower power envelope."

very good statement sir.

I am looking forward to the browser. It's much smoother on the Nexus because of the way the pages load. I can't wait to see how that technology works on the Rezound. Im expecting super smooth.
