Root ics... could this be ported?

This would be awesome! I was running ICS MIUI on my Droid X and I liked what ICS offered in terms of UI and the revamp Google apps.

What is required to get ICS on the Spectrum? I am starting to read about Android development, but I am nothing but a rookie on step #1....

If I can help in any way, please let me know. I really would like development to take off for this phone. The developers that are working on it now have done an amazing job with the two roms already, but ICS could really make this underdog phone shine!

same here... i had ics on my fascinate and it made a HUGE difference... it with a single core 1ghz hummingbird overclocked a tad past 1500mhz it runs eye to eye with the stock spectrum...

i just figured out how to restore my phone from "download mode"... so i think im about to try playing with some of the stuff i find.. im not a developer.. but just maybe *fingers crossed* these phones have the same filesystems

check rootzwiki ... this guy has been plastering this LU6200 stuff everywehere. I think neph had responded to him on there, that they were similiar but not identical. You will find some info there though.

edit: here is link
important--lg6200/spectrum (vs920) hardware same - LG Spectrum - RootzWiki

i keep forgetting about rootz having a useful forum for us.... just tried the ics update zip with removing the baseband.img and so far its hung on the lg logo at startup... eh.. getting my hopes up for no reason i suppose
edit: same thing flashing without removing the baseband... looks like a no go.. unless a dev can pick this apart and get all the partitions right

Bones man! you are crazy! lol

That rom would never work on this phone. Plus if you read the thread there is an issue with receiving sms. Unless you don't text anyone it would suck even if it did work for our phone. For me I need to receive my messages

i mostly use google voice for texting.. and my phone has been giving me signal problems... so if i hard brick it ill have a reason to send it back to verizon.. lol...

im just anxious to get away from gingerbread.... to me it feels like it just dont do our phone justice...

and ill agree with the crazy part... i honestly think ive spent more time restoring my phones to stock than successfully flashing roms... i have a bad habit of pushing the limits

lol Good stuff. I haven't had any issues with my spectrum ever. Not one bootloop. And I've done a lot of flashing of roms and such. But I sure did have a lot of bootloops and problems in general when I was rooting and flashing roms on my samsung charge. But i learned my lesson and stick as close as I can to the instructions though sometimes they can be vague and you kinda have to fill in the blanks.

So did you get your back to normal yet?

after no luck with the ics i tried to restore a backup of eclipse/popcorn..... bootlooped..... flashed brokenout 2.0 over it.. no wipe.. boots fine...

but maybe thats because im not on the touch recovery anymore....

does the charge use odin for restoring to stock?? i loved the interface of that with my fascinate....

since 9am my battery has drained to 17% started toying around with it at about 12 and it was at about 50%...... flashing this thing sucks up some power

Nitro may have luck, but as I've said in other threads, porting roms for the Spectrum is unbelievably hard, because the hardware is the same as the Optimus, but the lib files have totally different names than other LG phones, including the Optimus. Unless you know what each lib file does, it's damn near impossible to bin kang a rom. I tried with CM7 and couldn't get the hardware to jive.

Another issue with ICS (and CM9 for that matter) is the way it interacts with hardware. Given we can't get CM7 to easily work, I'm inclined to believe there are some HALs necessary to get the OS to work with the hardware.

I'd love to see a solid CM7 or CM9 build for the Spectrum, but it'll take some of the other LG devs to tear the phone apart before we can get a solid rom (other than Eclipse)

yes I always used odin for returning to stock.

Sucky part is I had a decent sized update just about ready for release then they update lol. Oh well, just change it to zv6 lol.

release it anyway mt! I'm still on the old version.

I tried the update last night but didn't really see any point in staying on it so I flashed back to v4 and then reinstalled eclipse. Release your update please! I wanna try it out!
