Help ICS - Disable spoken notifications

RootsRat

Lurker
Hello!

I've searched the forums for an answer, but could not find any, hence the new thread.

I have Samsung Galaxy S2 with an ICS (not rooted). When I have an incoming call, a male voice (it used to be nice female voice in Gingerbread!) notifies me about this: "You have an incoming call from <insert name here>".

Also, when I receive new emails (but it's only for emails!) I am being notified by voice: "You have 3 new emails!".

Thanks very much, but I do not want to be told, I am smart enough to figure out that someone calls due to my phone RINGING! Or - in email case - by hearing the notification sound.

So, anyone knows why my phone is notifying me by voice, why is it only for incoming calls and emails, and - most important! - how to switch this "feature" off please?

Many thanks
Bart

It may differ in different ROMs but you may want to check your Speech settings and turn off whats bothering you in:

Settings | Language and input.

Just had the same issue with my S2...nothing under Settings (for Heaven's sake...???) Just found that under the Voice Command app, Driving Mode was on. Had to say out loud "Driving Mode Off" (see the "Help"). Yet another lousy piece of configuration management that secures the future for Apple and the iPhone...

Thanks so much! Turning off the Driving Mode did the trick. You don't actually have to say it - there is a button for it. This thing was driving me mad!
