ICS earlybirds: Connectivity issues improved?

as per our earlier/still ongoing discussion (http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...ta-connection-drops-all-time-anyone-else.html), wondering IF there's any noticeable improvement in data connectivity with the ICS upgrade?

none of the aforementioned tricks/tips/suggestions/trials, et al, have fixed it for me (yet), so hoping something built into ICS addresses the issue .

i dont know what kind of connectivity issues you are having? my MAXX is always on 4G/3G....never had my data connection drop on me

The upgrade made my signal worse. I'm barely getting a 3g connection. Before ics I had solid 4g in same location. My phone is going back and forth between 2g and one bar 3g.

that's funny. not to sound like a smart alec or anything but there are like 3 separate threads with pages upon pages of people complaining about conectivity issues. I know because I'm 1 of them having a horrible time with my new phone. I'm really hoping this update whenever I get it will show some sort of improvement.

I had connectivity issues on my last maxx. I returned it because of overheating issues. My new phone has had no data drops and im using the same sim card.
I updated to ics with matts utility last night. My signal dropped in these new radios but my download speed doubled!
Go figure lol.

In actual dbm measurements they are about the same were I am (-98 to -101 dbm) but the signal meter seems to report this more accurately - i.e on GB I would have -100 dbm but the meter would show 4-5 bars, now at the same dbm I will have 2-3 bars which seems to me to be a more accurate depiction of relative signal strength. I was having some connectivity drops on GB but I'm not seeing any (2 days in) with ICS.

Just a reminder that bars do not relate to 4G, but to 1x voice. However, ICS may improve how it connects with 4G. That in itself may cause problems. When I connect to 4G at home, my bars drop to 1 to 2, because it is connecting with a tower further away that has 4G. Because of that, my voice(1x) will also use that tower further away and the bars will drop. Now when I switch to 3G, I connect to a tower less than a mile away, and my bars jump to around 4. Not all towers in a 4G market are 4G. Some are still 3G and your phone has to search out a tower further away to get 4G.

I never really had the issues some people have but the few data drops I had seem to be non existant anymore. Have only had it a few days but will see if it changes within the next few days.

I agree the bars and decibel reading are more accurate on ICS. Easy way to see this is be on 3G and look in the About Phone area for the Network info. It should show both 1x and 3G at the same time...and it will have different readings.

4g is gonna look worse than when on GB...but its not. Or shouldnt be.

As far as connection issues and threads.....its not nearly as bad as some make it. ...especially in comparison to other phones. And they all popped up recently for the most part. That points more to a Network issue. Or maybe some phones need a factory reset? I had an issue where I lost internet entirely on my Droid X1 last year. A factory reset fixed it.

A few pages thread isnt a cause for major concern. Less responses mean less ppl are having this issue. But I have noticed my RAZR getting stuck in 3G recently. That hasnt happened since Nov last year.

Not to mention that a good portion of the responses in those threads are the same people posting multiple times, people posting with suggestions or people posting to say they are not experiencing the problems. That's not saying there may not be a problem, just that it may not be as prevalent as some seem to think as well as possibly not being related to any specific device.

I obviously can't speak to how widespread the issue is, but it is very real for both my wife and I. We both got our Maxx's back in February. I had the data issue now and then basically right from the start. My wife had virtually no issues, and about 2 weeks ago she started having loss of data more often than her data worked (in the same areas she had never had issues before). We can be sitting next to each other with different results on each phone. I've even used the 'restore' app and rebooted with data still not working, while her phone blazes along with no issues.

I'm still too paranoid to make an official comment on my experience since my ICS upgrade. :D

I had a few data drops on GB, but nothing terrible. Same for my wife. I upgraded to am olderleak of ICS and had increased drops. Now i am on.211 and haven't had a drop yet.

Had the Razr Maxx since the minute the store opened on day one release. I have never once had a data drop or any connectivity issue until this update.

I bought mine online before the the store had them in stock, and had crazy drops two weeks ago. I'm not superstitious, and since ICS, not one drop.

4G is back to working flawlessly for me this evening and I have not upgraded to ICS yet. Hopefully it was upgrading the towers. I'm in the NYC area.

Mine went away after upgrading then two days later it started dropping like crazy. I reinstalled. 211 still kept dropping. I flashed the ikream rom and they stopped immediately. Go figure.

Have had ICS on my Maxx for 24 hours so far. Data conne was great at first, dropped a couple times but going strong. Speeds have increased too for me. So far nothing but good from ICS. But 24 hours is way too short to tell.
