ICS for Droid Razr?

I recently got the Droid Razr with Gingerbread 2.3.6 pre installed on it and have gotten used to the UI and apps. I currently use Juice Defender and with it my phone lasts all day from 7:30AM to 10PM at which point it has about 20-30% battery left.

I've heard different things about ICS. Some say it drains battery a lot, but that may be from way before a more recent update or something along those lines. Who wants to give me a good explanation (or direct me to a good explanation) of why upgrading to ICS would be a good idea? If you think rooting and using someone else's UI would be a better idea, explain why.

Please and Thanks!

Welcome to AF!

Do you have the CDMA razr or the GSM razr?

Personally, I find that ICS (on CDMA Razr) drains battery faster than it did on Gingerbread. It definitely is a newer "update" but if you are happy as is, why update?

Personally, I'm a guy who roots all of my android phones but I feel that that should be a personal decision (and there are always risks involved if you do).

I have Baseband Version CDMA_N_4.07.01R LTE DC_U_07.1F.00 ... in case anybody has some insight on how that might impact battery life. I was considering rooting since verizon covers my phone in case I "lose" it (in case I accidentally brick it). Any suggestions on UIs?

Word of wisdom. Don't confuse fraud (saying you lost it if you messed up) with what actually happened. Not only is it illegal and against forum rules but it's also not cool for the rest of us who know the risks and live with the risks.

Guess you'll need to decide if the risks of rooting are worth the benefits. Only you can decide that one. :)

Hello and welcome aboard. :)

Updates vary on each device...some works great, while others..well, let's say - don't workout that well. I was hesitant to update my device to ICS, after reading about all the problems that some users were experiencing. But I then realized that having the most recent version of Android on my phone was the better thing to do.

I took the plunge and updated...no big problems as i anticipated. Just make sure to reset the device for a better performance. Keep in mind that every update might have a little hiccup here and there, but nothing that will make the phone inoperable.

Hopefully your device will be one of those that runs Ice Cream Sandwich the way it was meant to do. :)

P.s. I've moved your thread to its area of discussion.
