Help ICS issues

Positing for a friend of mine...

Her (non-rooted) Design, since upgrading to ICS OTA is having a few issues, mainly:
1) Running very slow/laggy
2) Battery has been draining much faster than before
3) Camera shutter sound is even more annoyingly louder (even with everything on silent)

Anyone else having the same issues? any solutions? (other than rooting)

I heard doing a factory reset fixes the slowness, but from other reviews, it seems to be a 50/50 shot, so she doesn't want to do that unless no other choice.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortinately there's no going back to the GB quickness even after a reset, but it reduces the lag considerably. One thing HTC/Sprint/Quality Control didn't take into account during this upgrade is the changing of (stock) app versions and what things may have been tweaked causing crashes and other messes. Additionally, there are apps on the market that still aren't tweaked for ICS/JB and do not function properly after the upgrade.

If she's someone who is a heavy texter, she should clean them out. After a certain amount, the Messages app will refuse to open. There have been people on the Sprint forums who were locked out of Messages because they let the app accumulate thousands of texts and had to find alternative means of accessing them to correct the situation.

Are we talking about doing a factory data reset? Has this helped any of your issues. I to am having similar issues and would love to get it running more smoothly...

thanks,

scott

I experienced the lag and app crashes myself. As someone who's been fixing and upgrading PC's for a while, I know that performing major OS upgrades in place often makes messes so my first instinct was to do a factory reset. I immediately got the majority of my speed back. There's still some minor UI lag but you get used to it after a while. It's not as bad as the 5+ second wait times pre-reset.

I updated stock apps first then proceeded with reinstalling my own without any issue. So far everything I use has ICS compatibility. If you have any apps with data you can't afford to lose, I would suggest looking into rooting and using Titanium Backup to save that data. Recent updates allow backups of SMS/MMS and the Call Log as well. Just make sure all your Contacts are Google contacts so they restore properly after you log back into your phone.

I figured that would be the best options. I passed on the info to her, she should be resetting it and possibly rooting it to get rid of the annoying shutter sound.

Thanks again!

Got ICS and had severe lag. almost unresponsive on stock apps as well as others. within a hour of the update, I restored to factory. still slow as molasses.
DISABLED Sprint apps and Abobe Air. this is the key. reloaded my contacts and started building my apps back up. went from 274 apps to about 50 now. it runs great except for Dolphin browser. I'm hoping for an update that makes Dolphin faster soon.
stock phone dialer seems to have minor issues but I've seen worse. will live with it for now, since I don't really use it that often.

Adobe Air? That isn't stock (at least on my ED4G). Did you install something that required it?

It showed up when I remounted my SD Card. Not sure why but it always seemed to be in running aps and it kind of annoyed me. Lol
Also disabled this crap too
