Help ICS - Nexus 4g - Voice Dialing stopped working

Sorry if I've posted this in the Tips thread unnecessarily. Here's the post:

Voice Dialing worked when I first purchased the phone 2 nights ago. I've added a few apps (Spotify, Facebook) and moved somethings around, added email accounts, and now I'm getting "can't find handheld device" error message. I've turned bluetooth both on and off - no help. I talked to CS and they suggested wiping the phone - which I've done, after the usual trouble shooting steps - and it's still not working. CS says at this point there's no other reported instances of this problem.

Any suggestions or other occurrences?

Yes I am having the same problem. I got the phone a few days ago, added some apps and email accounts and my voice dialer does not work. I get a message "connection to headset lost" when I haven't set up any sort of headset. I took it to Verizon, we deleted apps and they reset it twice. Then, the same thing happened. They gave me a new phone, and the voice dialer still does not work. Verizon thought it might have something to do with my gmail account, but I find that odd since it is a fairly new gmail account.
I called Samsung and they don't have a clue. They just said they are working on fixing the issue.
Anyone else have the same problem? This is my first android and I am tempted to revert back to the iPhone if it's not fixed soon. Thoughts?

I feel your pain. I've gone through all those steps you describe. I'm actually somewhat heartened to hear this since it's not just me. If it happens enough, they'll fix it. In the meantime, I can live without it.

I've noticed at least 3 other instances of this exact problem. Anyone getting any help from Samsung or VZW?

I'm a noob here but not on other forums... I have a rooted GN with Android HD and am experincing the exact same problems.
I have also wiped and reinstalled too without any results... so it seems to be a problem with rooted and locked phones?
I'll keep my ear open here as well as other forums as it's driving me nuts! I want this to work!

I am having the same issue as well. The Voice Dialer worked when the phone was new, but not at this time.
I have narrowed mine down to the number of contacts in People. It appears that there is a memory issue with People.
I am adding contacts from my Corporate account. If I add only some of the contacts from my Coporate acount the Voice Dialer still works. When I add all of my contacts (around 1600) the Dialer stops functioning and I get the "Connection to Headset Lost" message. If I remove around 100 of the conatcts and then let the phone sync the Voice Dialer will work again.
Verizon tried a soiftare reset, then had me exchange the phone, but the same result. At this point they have given up.
It appears to be a software only issue. I hope the info here will escalate the issue for a fix in an upcoming release.

Bought a GN yesterday, and I have a similar problem: Voice Dialer does not respond -- it was one of the first things I tried. Initially the app gave me a few seconds to say a command, then produced an error message. Now it gives less than 1 second before stating, "Connection to headset lost."

Anyone hear of a fix?

I've checked in with Samsung on this, along with a couple of other issues, yesterday and they don't even show it as an issue. There's at least 4 people reporting this problem. I'm curious whether the number of contacts might be something to look at. I've got over 2400 in my contacts list.

Add me to the list. My voice dialer does not work and says "Connection to headset lost." I have 1156 contacts (personal and business combined). Thank you for any help.

Have Galaxy Nexus doing the same "connection to headset lost" before finding this post I tried uninstalling skype, but then notice there were 1454 contacts on the device. Has anyone found the majic number that allows the dialer app to work again?

I have 1201 contacts, and the voice dialer doesn't work.

It says "connection to headset lost". There is no headset attached. I tried it with a headset plugged in, and it says the same thing.

If I use the voice search, I can get it to work maybe 1 in 10 times to call a contact. It depends on the name of the contact. If their name sounds like something else, it will try a web search instead.

That's why the voice search app is so important. It gives the phone some context. It knows ahead of time that it should only look in your contacts. Rather than looking on the internet at the entire realm of recorded human knowledge.

I hope Google will fix this soon. I need to voice dialer for making calls hands-free. It's a safety issue.

Ditto...and I only have 350-400 contacts. But I always wondered why my voice dialer wouldn't work...now at least I know...thanks to JimmyV for pointing this out!!! Did anyone bother to submit the issue to Google yet?

I just received my new HTC Vivid with ice cream sandwich and I am shocked there is no voice dialing capability over my Bluetooth. How can the most important driving safety feature for a cell phone not work. Every non-smartphone or smartphone(not running ICS) I have had, had this capability. I guess safety was not an important feature for Android to consider and I will now have to handle my phone while driving in order to place a call. It is a real shame. I will see if it is possible to install Gingerbread on this phone. May just have to return it and take a step backwards for the sake of driving safety. *SIGH* :(
