Help ICS Notifications sounds issue

phoenixms

Newbie
I'm not sure why but my notification sounds will stop working at a random times. I have to restart my phone to get them working again. I'll have text messages and email without a peep from my phone. Notification volume is at Max and will even play the default tone when adjusted but will not play a notification sound for any event until I restart.

I can also now confirm that both my gsII on my account with ICS do this but mine seems to be more frequent.

Anyone having this issue?

i'm having the same problem...it's annoying

i just update via kies two days ago and no sound for notifications or emails.

Oh thank goodness i'm not the only one who's noticed this.

When you say restart you mean just powering off and on or a factory reset?

Yeah, I have the same problem...It happens with both sound and vibration. I must say that this is absolutely 100% unacceptable. Am I going to end up with a PHONE that does NOT RING. Insane! I'll give it a day or two, see what happens, and then pay a visit to somebody at AT&T. It may get ugly.

Yes, I have the same problem. I have to restart as well to get my phone to ring and/or vibrate with email and text messages. I've also noticed my facebook notifications do not work as well until after restart.

Unfortunately, yes. I have been having the same problem with my notifications, and I have missed several phone calls because there was no ring. I was in an area of good 4g reception, too. Since I updated my phone to ICS, I have done two factory resets to try and weed out any bugs, but some of them seem to be permanent.

i did a restart...and so far seems to be working ok

so it was good for a day or so then stopped. i dont want to have to restart my phone everytime i want to hear my notifications

its just a restart option instead of turning the phone off and then on again

Seems like my notifications work for only a few hours(if I'm actively using my phone) before I have to restart the phone. I also noticed that my keypad makes noise even when I turn it off. It goes back to silent when I restart. It's extremely annoying.

Same problem here :( . Notifications are appearing on top task bar as normal. Notification sounds, SMS sounds, and sometimes phone rings stop working (though you can see the screen flashing). Only a restart fixes this. I noticed it takes about 2-3 days for the problem to arise... Until they come up with a solution (most likely a patch/new ICS version), just restart the phone every couple days (hold power button for menu, click restart) - it takes about a minute tops, so not too bad. :hmmmm2:

Oh, I disagree, it is a HUGE issue and restarting the phone every 2-3 days does not really work...It doesn't work because it randomly stops ringing/vibrating, sometimes couple of hours, sometimes a day, and so on. So, i would have to restart the phone every couple of hours, and there would still be a decent chance of missing a call. This is insane, and we really should be raging out about this one. I am just worried that i'll get the FAMOUS "ok, let's try with the factory reset"...ugh...

Yeah...I've done a factory restart and the issue returned.

So do we call at&t or Sammy?

ugg.... I wonder how many times they'll try to exchange my phone until they decided it's a firmware issue.

Samsung wants me to send the phone in for repair.... This is so frustrating!

I'm not doing it.... I'm not sending it in for some tech to factory reset my phone and ship it back to me....

If I knew of so many problems I would have NEVER upgraded my phone. Its very aggravating. Also, I'm noticing that my phone will randomly turn off. Earlier today I had to take out batter and put it back in because the phone wouldn't even start. I wish they researched better with these upgrades before they made us do them. I used to LOVE my phone, now I'm starting to not like it because of this so called upgrade.

I think this is AT&T issue as I don't remember anyone else complaining about it after they got their ICS upgrade.

I would have to agree with it being an at&t issue. getting their fingers in the mix, i have a friend with a Nexus and his ics looks nothing like mine, only a couple similarities.
i hope someone comes up with a fix soon

I spoke with a very nice Lady at at&t Warranty Service Center who actually seemed sympathetic to my woes. Finally...

She searched her database but found no information concerning this issue so she called Samsung herself and spoke with someone. This person with Samsung assured her that there would be an OTA maintenance for ICS being released soon. She nor the person from Samsung knew if this would address this issue but I've got my fingers crossed. Hope that there is such a maintenance patch going to be released and that it will address this notification issue.

And is anyone having trouble getting the ringtone and notification volume separated? I always had call volume muted and notifications on "1" at the office. Now the checkmark to link them is selected but not clickable.

Also, I had the same problem with my sound selections randomly changing, but the factory reset seems to have fixed it.

If the Samsung fixes this problem, it'll be "by accident". This is clearly AT&T messing up, they need to fix it. I like how they research the issue and find nothing- that's what happened to me. And then they of course suggest factory reset. Ugh.

I'm luckier than you all. My only beef with sounds is that the sound I chose for my e-mail notification is not the one that plays. The rest seems to be functioning OK. I'm often surprised that I've missed a call, but that may not be the phone so much as my not being able to hear my phone when it's buried.
My thanks to those of you who had the patience to deal with AT&T and Samsung's alleged tech support. My experience when I realized the 2.3.6 battery life was unacceptable was so awful, I never ever want to call these people.

So now we wait for an update... right after we got ICS which was beginning to take on shades of the Promised Land?

I have many of the same issues after upgrading to ics plus a 12 hour battery life, lock ups when trying to answer calls. I disagree that this is an att issue, phone was perfect before the upgrade.
Anyway to refert back to my old os?
