ICS: Password Required to Turn On Screen

My company requires me to have a screen lock password that I only had to enter if I exceeded the timeout value I had set to 20 minutes. With ICS I have to enter my password every time I turn the screen off, which is frequently just to save battery power and when I put it in my pocket for a few minutes. If I just let the screen turn off on it's own I don't have to re-enter the password unless the timeout value has been exceeded. I have reduced the screen turn off value to 15 seconds so I just let it turn off now on it's own but I would rather do it manually myself as soon as I don't need to read the screen any more. This is a major annoyance and wonder if anyone knows if there is a way to get around this?

How did it work before? I'm perhaps not the most qualified person to answer, as I haven't used a password on this phone, but I thought that's how it always worked.

Did I misunderstand? Describe what happened with Gingerbread and now with ICS if you don't mind, so no one's confused.

When you go into security settings, under the time out part is a check mark for automatically set when press power button. Uncheck that and you should be good to go.
