Help ICS & Razr - Screen on not an option?

At work, my Razr sits in a dock - I want the screen to stay on. In the car, I want the "Car Mode" to be displayed. But ICS defaults to 1 minute time out and can be set only as long as 10 minutes in settings. Short of root or hammer, what are the options to fix this programming error?

Settings > Developer Options > Stay Awake

This will keep the screen on while charging.

That works fine during the day; at work and in the car, but it really isn't an option for sleeping. I'd like the screen off when it's charging and I'm asleep.

What I'd really like is the old settings which were available in 2.3.6


Update: 11 minutes later - even with "Stay Awake when charging" set in developer settings, the screen goes off after 10 minutes. Grrrr.

Use the Stay Awake option, and at night tap the power button to turn off the screen.

While I am sure there are other apps that can do this, I have SwitchPro installed and one of the widget choices is "Keep screen on" or you can choose to have that toggle present a choice of screen on times. I have not tested it to ensure that the screen does stay on for more than 10 minutes, but when tapping it, a little message appears saying "keep awake ON". I guess you can try it for 14 minutes and if it doesn't work, get a refund before the stupid 15min limit is up.

This app allows you to put several toggles on a widget, various sizes and colors, and you can even have it appear in your notification area as well.

So, apparently no one has any useful suggestions and people don't seem to mind that they don't have a functional "keep live" option. I'm really disgusted that this new OS is so dysfunctional after listening to the hype for 8 months.

have you tried making a macro for it in Smart Actions?

don't know myself, never tried it, but that seems like that place such a thing would be possible. set it to stay awake while charging during "these hours" on "these days" but not during "those hours" or on "those days".

In fact, that's where I first noticed the problem - in Smart Actions. I have rules set for work, home, sleep, weekends, etc... and they don't work right because ICS doesn't offer a "keep on" option.

The last thing I want to do is slave to my phone, setting things this way and that way depending on where I am. It's technology - it's supposed to support me, not the other way around!

OTD may have overwhelmed you with options, but I have been using the app called Screen On (first link in OfTheDamned's post above) for many years with good results

After scouting the options, I've settled on Screebl which seems to fill the bill best.

You might want to try a free app called KeepScreen. I've used it for a couple of years now and it works great. You can choose apps where you want to keep the screen from going to sleep. Only thing I've noticed since ICS though is that you have to enable it after rebooting. Before ICS it would retain the enabled setting.
