Help ICS - Roaming indication on home network

Hi everyone,

Recently upgraded my Galaxy S2 to ICS using a guide at cnet.co.uk.

All appears to work fine apart from one thing - sat at home, my signal indicator shows that I am roaming and a warning notification reports "You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turned off". To clarify, I'm at home, a Three network customer and never saw the roaming indicator at anytime before in the UK. I also have data roaming turned off for the usual obvious reasons.

Has anyone encountered this and does anyone have any ideas how I can rememdy this situation?

Regards,
Rich

I have this to. This only occurs when you're not on a stock ROM. Stock ICS works fine that I downloaded with checkfus.

The only thing I can see is that it's when I loose network connectivity altogether or when I drop down to a 2G network signal.

I guess ICS interprets this a roaming on another network weirdly .....

May have got to the bottom of it

there's a file in /System/etc in ICS called spn-conf.xml. This file is used from what I can see to tell the phone when it's roaming or not (amongst other things)

there's a line in the non stock roms with :

<spnOverride numeric="23210" fake_home_on="23201"/> <!-- H3G Network -->

I'm going to test this at home tonight and see what happens.

Welcome to the forum richhenn and thanks for joining.

Maybe the ics firmware you flashed made your phone think it was on a different network. Maybe something to do with the csc but not sure as its been a long week and my mind can't think too technically.

I would suggest flashing the official Three UK ics (lpq) from here and see if it sorts the problem.

The mind boggles why this happens, i've tried mucking about with copying bits and bobs from the stock ICS over to the modded ICS ROMS /tna

Unfortunately it would appear that i'm stuck with stock or I move house and get a better mobile reception indoors :P

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the input to this one - very much appreciated.

Well, an update. From what I can see, the standard Samsung ICS firmware will cause the data roaming warning, however on installing the new 3 ICS firmware it causes the warning to disappear. I can only summarise that 3 have coded something different to take account of their network setup.

I think I'll stick with the 3 firmware for now. I've worked out how to remove their apps from appearing on the screen so I'll stick with it until I can solve this one :)

Thanks again,
RIch

I have a similar problem. I have and Unbranded S2 and have recently updated to ICS when the firmware was released on the 17th April.
I am also on the 3 network.

I have had the roaming signal before when I had gingerbread 2.3.4, but only when I was out walking (I live near the Lake District) so thought this was natural with regards signal.

However after updating to ICS, I still get the Roaming, but now I don't get a data connection, (before on 2.3.4 I had roaming but still had data connected with G (GPRS) or E (EDGE)).

Now I have nothing, even though I have, Use Packet Data and Data roaming both ticked.

i have an almost identical problem and live in the country although I can get a data connection albeit not great. I am on 3 and recently upgraded. I get the data disconnection due to roaming warning. However, was in a city centre location all weekend and didn't get it. I think signal strength might be more critical with ICS in dodgy signal areas.
