Root ICS Update.

You are looking at the scribblings of a very happy bunny.:D:D

Firstly a HUGE thanks to DURX and Scotty, and ALL the others who take the time to help us mere mortals, who know not a lot!

Briefly, i bought the DHD in June, which was rooted and S-Off, whilst I loved ICS, I did want video working if poss, and as you know it didn't.

I was sent an update around that time to ICS 8.0... followed by another to 8.1...

Since then, nothing, until I started to see reports of ICS 8.6...

Having had visitors for a month, so really needing the phone, I didn't want to take a chance of bricking the phone, so today:

I did exactly this:

Step 1. Download the ice cold sandwich rom
IceColdSandwich-8.6.1.AOK...
Step 2. Transfer it to the root of your phone's SD card.
Step 3. Open Rom manager in your phone.
Step 4. Select the option 'Install rom from sd card'
Step 5. Select the icecoldsandwich 8.6aokp signed.zip file
Step 6. Select the options 'Wipe dalvik cache' and 'Wipe cache' and click install.
Step 7. There you go,you have a successful installation.

I haven't yet, found any thing that doesn't work, MMS, and VIDEO!:D:D

Just a great phone !!

I'm really pleased, because I really didn't want to have delete everything on the phone, contacts etc.

If anyone else wants to do this, remember, this phone was already on ICS, so this was an update, rather than a ROM change, and looking at other posts, a complete factory reset is preferable.

As always, DURX and Scotty, if you see any of this as not safe for other users, please jump in, as I wouldn't want to cause any bother for other users.

Thanks again everyone.

Hey rockinrom - long time no see!!

Bet you're glad to have the video working... I remember you saying that was something you wanted when you first rooted! :)

All above looks OK - the only thing that I would maybe advise is to boot in to recovery and do the ROM flash from there, rather than from within ROM Manager. The only reason I say that is from when I first rooted, loads of people said that ROM Manager can (sometimes) not flash stuff correctly. You've said that all's well, so it must have been ok for you but I just wanted to pass on info I was given :)

Glad you can enjoy your phone set up as you want it though!! :D

Hi,

Yes it's great now. All understood about booting from recovery though. I also have a copy of this in goo manager now, as it keeps everything together if I do need to restore a version, they're all on there, right back to 7.4!!:D

I see you're running the same for the moment, how cool is that boot-up screen now??

All the best, Rom.

i agree with this completely! 99% of the panic "help my phone wont boot and i dont know what to do!" posts start out "i flashed rom xyz thru rom manager..."

it does have a tentency not to flash things correctly, and moreover,is an APP,in a functional rom,and as such will not always be available for you to use. if your rom bootloops, hangs at a splash screen,or boots to a semi-functional rom with no way to load rom manager, your only recourse will be to manually enter recovery thru hboot and using its menu options wipe everything, and reflash the bad rom, flash a new rom,or restore a backup.

i pretty strongly recomend to aviod the use of rom manager all togehter, but if you do want to use it and aware of the slight risks, make sure that you are familiar with manually manipulating things in your custom recovery first.

the other reason not so use rom manager,as it requires clockwork to function. EXT_4 is a very nice touch recovery... might give it a shot. rom manager wont work with it,but the touch features and menu options make it just as easy to use :)

I did not know this!

I used ROM Manager to flash clockwork when I first rooted, but then never really used it (other than to download ROM's at first). I've not actually had it on my phone in ages though!! :)
