Root I'd like to get 2.2 but...

I have a few questions that need to be answered first.

A. Do i need to downgrade to 2.0.1 to root?

B. Can i upgrade to 2.2 once the phone has been rooted?

C. Will i need any kernels or anything to overclock the phone or will SetCPU do that for me?

D. Can i un-root at any time back to 2.1? (In case the official 2.2 comes out soon)

Any help would be apreciated!

A no
B yes
C kernels are needed, setcpu lets you specify the speed you want from the kernel
D yes

All the answers you seek are in this forum, search it and you'll find more in depth answers :)

Ok, are there any guides on rooting up from 2.1? I've taken a look but i didn't find anything that didn't come from 2.0.1.

You are correct. Has to be done with a PC or a Mac running virtual machine (or a similar program).

@ the OP...your best bet would be to just borrow a friend's PC. Maybe set up something so that you buy him a few beers and he lets you use his computer for a bit. Rooting is actually a pretty painless process. You might also find these two videos helpful, as they show you how to root from 2.1. It's the same as the link I posted earlier, just in video form so you get to follow along while someone experienced is doing the same thing. When you get to the part where he installs a custom 2.1 ROM, just substitute a 2.2 ROM for that part and you'll be good to go. Here are the videos:

Part 2: Video: Installing a Custom ROM Using SPRecovery - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Welcome to rooting!
