Help idle battery drain

I've been having a fairly annoying problem with my galaxy, barely a month old. The battery life is fairly decent, but sometimes it drains way too quickly while idle. Basically, every night I charge my phone to 100% before I go to bed and recharge it again in the morning before I leave for work from usually about 95ish back to full. But here's my problem: some days I'll wake up and it will be just about dead. For example, Wednesday night I did what I usually do and charged my phone to 100 before bed, and in the morning it was at 97. Great. So that night (Thursday), I do the same thing. I was woken up this morning from my phone beeping because it was at 5%. Attached is a picture showing my battery usage during that time. According to my calculations, which in all likely likelihood are incorrect, that is a 12% drain per hour, while idle. I have no idea why this is happening. It has happened about 3 times over the past month. But get this: the first time it happened my battery was at 66 in the morning, the second time it happened it was at 23, and this time it was at 5 an hour before I even woke up. And here's the weird part: after I woke up today and my phone was dead, I charged it until I left. By that time it was at 85%. I got to work 30 minutes later and for some reason my phone was up to 87 percent by then. Usually when I leave with 100 I'll come back home with 80 to 85 left. Today I returned home with 80 even though I left with 85. I'm going to install some kind of app to monitor my battery usage, but in the mean time, can anyone tell me what the hell is going on?

This happens to me on occasion. When I check, it is 100% Awake time and the Gallery is running. Problem being, I have no idea why Gallery is running and, I assume, causing the 100% Awake time.

Here's a screenshot of my battery usage from last night

This has happened to me a few times since I got the S3 in August, and again the other night. I had come back from a road trip and disconnected from my car charger at about 6 PM. From this point it slowly discharged (like normal) until about midnight at which point it started to discharge very rapidly and by about 4 AM it woke me up with the low battery signal. All this time the phone was not being used, and connected to wifi. I have yet to figure out why these events happen. It would be nice if there was an app to indicate exactly what app(s) were being used and at what times so that you could correlate battery discharge with a particular app. I have GSam Battery Monitor installed and it indicated that more than 70% of the battery usage was from the screen, but I don't see how that was possible as the screen was off during the discharge period.

This is happening with both mine and my fiance's Galaxy S3's. However I was gifted an external 4200 mAh battery last Christmas and do not have any similar problems. That may be due to the much larger capacity but you'd think I'd still have some of the problems just not as extreme.

This has happened to me on various occasions as well but the common factor is, it has always only occurred over night with wifi off. Not really sure why and when I checked my battery usage, like bmoliver said, my phone battery usage indicated most was used on powering the screen also, which made no sense as it was off all night :/
