Yes it is a conundrum. I think that Austerity is brought about by political agenda, it is about maintaining wealth at the top. The sums no longer add up, we have become a debt based economy. Alot of wealth created is based on illusion, and could also disappear overnight things such as bitcoin or virtual currency. Real wealth which used to be stored in gold and silver, is precarious because gold and silver prices are fixed in order to protect the value of US Dollar. The US runs a military industrial complex and actually stealth wralth from other countries, seeking world domination. In America there is this illusion that the great American dream is alive and well. There may be areas in the US where there are still wealthy prosperous people but thatbis purely geographical. For the majority Poverty is the rule and surviving on a low wage two paycheques away from losing everything. Auserity is a political choice, when infact all it is achieving is grinding poverty and an economy which is dying. To answer the title of this thread:
What is the answer to.life, the universe and everything?
To the meat of the argument:
There are people who work to turn a life around. They get satisfaction and maybe a living wage.
The recipient gets his life back.
As far as I know this only applies in the US.
