Root If I root, what do I lose

Bear with me.....

I've read a lot of your very useful posts but I'm keep to know the downsides too. I see posts mentioning flaky wifi and radio service (on some ROMs) which suggests there are downsides to rooting.

So, what are they? I am so tempted to try but I want to be fully informed before I have a go, at least I am now happier that I realise I can put the stock ROM back on.

There's a pretty good post here outlining the benefits and negatives of rooting; it does a good job of summing up both.

One of the good things about a custom ROM is that if you flash one that has dodgy WiFi, poor battery life etc, there are plenty of others you can choose from. A lot of issues can be sorted by reflashing the same ROM again though.

I am very pro root, but wasn't for a while and can totally understand the arguments against it. If you do decide to go for it or have issues when you do, there'll be plenty of folk on here should you need assistance.

I'd say do it. But if you do, read up on it before hand, just to make sure you know the ins and outs of it, it sounds like you've done all that already though.

That pretty much sums it up.

HTC released a few updates a while back that caused poor wifi performance, and no fix was produced for quite some time. On the other hand, if there is something wrong with a custom ROM, the developer usually has a patch to fix it the next day, not a few weeks/months later.

As for radios, those are independent to your ROM, so most of the time you won't need to switch to a different one. Sometimes a custom rom will recommend you update to a newer radio, but personally I rarely bother and I don't seem to have any problems.
