well, it depends on if you like touchwiz or not. and if you want to try JB or not.

most of the time, usually, it's because someone messed up on rooting their device. Not because rooting is a problem.

Also, you don't notice threads like "I've successfully rooted my device and everything is fine" because this is a help forum. For every bad root, there's probably hundreds if not thousands of successful ones.

Rooting itself is a pretty simple task. You shouldn't worry that much. It's what you do afterwards that matters in terms of damage. Unless you need to root for a specific reason, just leave it. If you still want, you're not going to end up like those users. The first one you linked, for example, flashed a custom ROM, it wasn't just a matter of rooting the phone.

There are a lot of threads/posts from people enjoying JB on their phones, if that is a risk they are willing to take fine.

This thread is meant as a warning to those that are unsure whether or not to try this on their phone and may not be aware of the risks.

I have changed the thread title.

I have read several threads about how easy it is to install JB and how easy it is to fix if it all goes wrong.
The problem is people who do not know what they are doing will try because others have said it is easy and will not render the phone useless, then when it does go wrong the person is left with a bricked phone, dirty underwear and a lot of questions they dont know the answer to.
My advice is, if you do not know what you are doing and it ain't broke don't fix it, wait for the official release.

Thread title changed !

Still, I am of the opinion, that whoever wants to use JB right now, should not be afraid to flash it. The fact that there are 2 and I mean TWO threads about problems after flashing/ rooting means nothing when you look at the amount of users around S3 forums. Plus, JB is really awesome.

I would imagine the people who have had problems would not agree.

As i said earlier the thread was intended as a warning to people who might not know from reading the "go for it" threads that things can go wrong and do.

Plus, JB is really awesome.

No shit Sherlock.

I have bigger things to worry about than weather i have the latest thing on my phone it really isn't that big a deal, as i have said many times i will wait until the official release by which time you will be bored of JB and will be here asking when "ice bean cream sandwich" is out.

Firstly, calm down.

Secondly, you changed your post after other people have commented. Then turn around and tell them to get on topic? please refrain from moving your goal posts.

Thirdly, if people want to flash their phones, the forums on "how to" already have warnings in them. No need to make a whole new thread on warning people.

Thanks for your time, have a nice day.

Rooting is often touted as the solution to everything. Its not. It's technical and reading a step by step is NOT enough. You need to understand the principles first.

Rooting seems to be chosen more often than not to "solve" impatience. This is (IMHO) the last reason to root.

For those unsure whether they want to root - DON'T. Only do it when you're sure this is what you want.

For those who decided to root, read, read, read. Then ask, ask, ask. Then read some more. Ensure you understand before going ahead.

It's easier for us to help you understand and get it right first time than it is to fix an issue resulting from impatience, error and misunderstanding.

I totally agre with SURoot on rooting - if you do not know why you need it, you do not need it at all.

This thread was not created to talk about rooting, but about flashing JB, I think.

Do you want JB? Get it and enjoy it. It is not technical at all and against what some say, it does not require root.

The advice is appreciated, but there are warnings in most (if not all) of the guides so I'm sure people who attempt any sort of modification are aware of the risks.

As such this thread is being locked. If anyone has issues with that, they're more than welcome to drop me a PM, my door is open.
