my buddy lost his phone about 2 months ago,and got a new phone through Asurion insurance., somebody apparently found his phone and mailed it back to him.he charged it up and all seems ok. is there any way Verizon would reactivate it so he could give it to me? what are the parameters as well as through the insurance? or is this phone just a brick now? what are options if there are any? thanks guys:confused:

From what I understand, once you make a claim that you lost your phone, that phone will essentially become a brick. It prevents people making false claims and ending up with 2 fully functional phones.

Well, the only option is to "come clean" with the Carrier. Call them up, and let them know the whole situation. They may, or may not, unblock the ESN.

If they wont unblock it, you could try to convince your friend to find one of the devs that cook up neato ROMS for it, and see if they need a dev phone of that make/model :)

If you look at the Asurion contract that you have under Verizon, the phone is in technicality Asuron (or Verizon's) property. It's like if you damage the phone, you MUST send in the broken phone to get a new one. The same thing applies here. The right thing to do is called up Verizon and 'fess up'. It is morally/ethically wrong to keep the phone when your friend was given a replacement phone in good faith that his original phone was lost.

my friend has no ethics...lol. i was pretty sure it was a brick. hes not gonna try and sell it, my wife was having troubles with her Ally, and he offered it up to me for her. all good. thanks;)

Once a phone it blacklisted by the carrier it's not likely possible to get it working again unless something highly illegal is done to the ESN (MEID)...
