Root If my Desire HD is rooted, can i download an update directly on my phone to unroot it ?

please i need help, i bought a phone and it is rooted to the ics but i want it back on gingerbread
can i just download the update and it will unroot everything will go back to stock ?
please im new as my name states haha

If your phone is rooted, you would need to use an RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) to return it to stock.

If you could let us know what your phone details are, we can point you in the right direction... from your homescreen, press "menu=>settings=>about phone"
