Root *IF* One wanted to brick their phone...

Without a rooted phone...how would one do that...?

Put the update you are tying to flash on the root of your eris. Make you also have the launcher2.apk that will FC. Restart your phone into HBOOT and in the middle of the flash remove your battery and BAM!:D

Haha. There are more steps to bricking a phone than I thought.

I was unaware that it is fraud to brick your phone... someone fill me in if I am wrong :) The guy just asked a question, there is no need for comments like that @gohamstergo

LOL my brother was just going to post a thread about what not to do while your updating your phone.

Has anyone heard any more news about the 2.1 rollback

Some people on here act as if they are holier than thou and have never done anything wrong in their lives. We have a lot of Saints here at androidforums :)

So, I can't get my phone to turn on, as in every time I push the power button I get the android exclamation guy, even when i do power vol -. did I by any chance accidentally brick my phone? All I did was try to power up into recovery mode, got the android exclamation guy, pulled my battery like normal, and it won't start up anymore...

it is fraud IF he was planning on bricking his phone ON PURPOSE with the intent to lie about the cause of the brick to get another phone from his insurance. didn't mean to accuse, per se.

how would one burn down a building? i just want another building so i can install newer stuff, its no big deal.

if hes only asking in jest, then no direct harm done. but still a bad topic

For all we know, he could have been asking just to know what not to do. Also, if he were doing it just for the insurance, he could very easily just lose the phone or hit it with a hammer or throw it out the window for all the insurance people care. They are still getting $80 out of it.

$50 if you tell them that that's what assurion says (this is true btw)!

Their poo never stinks. But it's ok to pass judgement on others.. wait isn't that a sin too?!

Contribute to the thread or don't say anything at all.

As for bricking I still vote for the smash method. Nothing like like some unadulterated destruction to satisfy any mood.

I vote 110v or so into a couple of the battery connector pins.

If you'd like it to be recoverable (by somebody at htc), just pull the battery in the middle of a flash I guess...

lol..forgot I made this thread.

I didn't have to Brick my phone. I just complained about dialer lag, that I had JUST reset my phone to factory AGAIN, and that my Facebook contacts not syncing (which, now that I have my new phone, is not hardware related..it's something in the leaked roms that doesn't play nice with my Facebook account).

The guy helping me was the store supervisor, but fortunately he was a Blackberry Person and was pretty clueless to Android. I basically showed him Facebook working on the store's Eris, and not working on mine. He did ask why my menu was different, but i pleaded ignorance and was like, "I don't know, that's just how my phone was when you guys sent out the last OTA!" (Had to explain what OTA meant). He said, "Ok, we'll swap you for a refurb phone."

So, I got my referb, and now happily running Root :D

That's awesome  Wally.... welcome to root my friend :p

wait....so if you brick your phone ON ACCIDENT, they swap it out for a refurb? Is that covered under the $80 insurance? or the free-swap-because-you-nothing-wrong-insurance, like when your track ball stops working
