Help If RUU will you still get OTA Message to update?

I RUU and everything runs fine but have a question. How does Verizon know that you have 2.2 installed? Does the update look at your phones software version before prompting for an update? Just curious about the process.

will it say there is an update available and then just say nevermind you are up to date, or those of us with the RUU just won't get any notification at all?
