If you were me, which Notes II case(s) would you buy?

My first real vacation in a while happens next month. I've been an iPhone user for several years, but I recently realized that my iPhone's iOS6 Maps would work well only at getting us lost. Moreover we could not easily use the maps.google.com points of interest added ("My Places") to our custom maps up to now.

So I have a ATT Galaxy Notes II on order, due to arrive Nov 9.

I need a case or 2 that will get me through this trip, which includes:

2 9 hour plane trips
2 23.5 hour layovers in London inbound and outbound, (12 hours exploring London, 11.5 hours sleeping and dealing w/ Heathrow and customs)
3 2 hour plane trips
2 day-long car transferS with lots of stops
1 2.5 hour train ride
1 5 hour train ride

And of course lots of walking and navigating, using my future ATT Galaxy Note II. We'll have 4 devices with us, 2 iPhones, the Galaxy Note II, and a Kindle.

It seems like the 2 primary use cases are:

1) Using the Galaxy Note to navigate and get info about our Google Maps Points of Interests.

This will involve pulling it in and out of wherever I'm keeping it, probably my purse or pocket

2) Using it for entertainment (music, movies maybe, reading) while on trains or planes

Seems the type of case you need isn't available yet for this phone. Most sites say coming soon since the Note 2 was just launched in the US.

There is a very good accessory thread with 185 that more than likely will help you make a decision.

Galaxy Note 2 master Accessories List and this one Best case for note 2.

What type of case feature were you thinking of that I need that also is not available yet?

It seems from reading the threads that there are already a lot of cases available. Certainly there will be lots more of course.

Yes, thanks, I have read both.

What I'm asking is this:

If you were me, planning for the situation that I described above, which case(s) or accessories would you buy? (and why)

Personally I'd want something slim; but that's just my preference and has nothing to do with an itinerary. Reading those threads will better help you decide what type of case YOU need for your situation. Most of the cases made for "drops" aren't available yet and based on how much you're going to be accessing your phone you have a higher chance of dropping it.

As a matter of fact, you could've asked this question in that thread either of those threads since they are about cases.

I cant answer you're question based on if I were you cause I go to sleep on planes and trains.

I completely agree with wanting something slim. But then again, I don't know anyone who wants a bigger case than what's absolutely necessary. Based on what seems to get media and people excited about a new gadget, its lighter weight and thinness. I'm sure people do exist who want an unnecessarily big, bulky case, but not me.

Yes, I did read through those threads. There are a lot of choices there.

I've never used a Note and needed to navigate so much. I'm hoping someone who travels a lot and has some experience with any of those cases could lend their expertise. Or even just someone who doesn't travel a lot but who can apply their expertise and imagination to what I might need.

Those are general topics. Those topic's titles are: "Galaxy Note 2 master Accessories List" (my question is much more specific) and "Best case for note 2" (I'm don't know what is the "best" overall case for note 2".)

This is a specific question. Feedback from moderating forums is that, for example, if I don't have an accessory that I want to contribute to the master list, or if I don't have a case that I want to suggest is best overall, I should start a different topic.

Oh. OK. Thank you anyway.

Has anyone ever created a "tether" between their case and their clothing or purse?

I found a seamstress to add an inside pocket to my winter coat for the Galaxy Note with pockets from a pair of boy's cargo shorts I bought on sale in the same color as my coat.

One thing I'm thinking about doing is somehow tethering my Note to this coat, for 2 reasons:

1) To make it more difficult for someone to steal my Galaxy Note when I fall asleep on a train. (or tries to use a distraction trick to lift a gadget)

2) To make dropping it to the ground or leaving it somewhere less likely.

I could tether a Galaxy Note case to the new zipper pull on the inside pocket, IF the case could be tethered.

You could get an Otterbox/Seidio Holster for your Note 2 and have it on your hip at all times. It'll look really odd, to say the least, but you'll always know when it's on you.

As for the tether. They are some folio type cases on eBay which you could either add a key ring to it or possibly attach some sort of fastener to it. From there, you would simply attach a string/chain or whatever to the case and then to your coat. Personally it seems like a smidge overkill but it's doable.

If it were me, I'd probably go with the holster since it's so bulky, you're always going to know if the phone is on you.

Thanks, I will try to find one of those in person. I wish it had a way to tether...

Interesting. I will look for one of those. I've never used a phone case that has a front cover on it that I have to open up to see the phone. I've only used back/side coverage cases.

hmmm Guess I better pick a skirt that can handle a belt!

I'll have a coat on almost always since temps average 30(low) - 37(high) degrees Fahrenheit, so if I keep it far enough left on the belt it won't be too visible.

Personally what i've done is bought a cheap silicon case off ebay until otterbox bring out th e case for the note 2. Otterbox rocks !

Didn't know you were a lady :o Must've missed that somewhere. Quick search on fleabay provided some items that might be of interest to you;

New Soft Bag Pouch Case Handbag for Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 S3 S2 s Camera | eBay

1
Handbag Pouch Case Bag for iPhone 4S 4 3GS 3G Samsung Galaxy S3 S2 s Note Black | eBay

If neither of these fit the bill then they can surely be modified in someway to make it more of what you're looking for. That, and they're dirt cheap so if you mess up on one, it's only a couple dollars down the drain :)

EDIT: yes, I missed it where you stated "purse or pocket" in your original post

It's my opinion as phones get bigger, placing them on the hip is not wise. I still think it's way to easy to get bumped or snatched; after all, our focus isn't on our phones all the time.

Otterbox and Seidio may be great for travelers but what good does that do the traveler when neither company has made those cases for this phone yet?
