I'm from Missouri, U gotta show me!

Well that is what my high school weightlifting coach would say anyways.

I know that I am missing out by not rooting. I know this. But can somebody post a video to show me exactly what it is that I am missing? I think I'll attempt to root and unlock next week because of all that I am missing but I would love to see a rooted phone in action! I'm tired of waiting for Jellybean! Motivate Me!

ChappelleHeel, here's how I would describe it:

Verizon is allowing you to use the limited Android system that they say you can use. Does it work? Sure... and it works well. But it's far from everything Android has to offer.

Would you rather look outside a small window at kids playing in the sun, or actually BE out there playing? Sure, inside is safer: but all the fun is out there.

When I unlocked, rooted & ROMmed my Nexus, I effectively stepped through the door into a world where Android is seemingly limitless in what it can do. And it's amazing.

Is staying inside the Verizon world safer, more secure? Yep. Will you get scrapes and bumps playing in the big world? Likely. But oh, the difference is so worth it!

Go to YouTube and search "benefits of rooting Android". That will show you some of what you're missing...

Hope this helps :)

ChappellHeel,

I am very much a stock person because I like my phone to just work and most ROMs I have ever played with don't just work. However, my phones did not have the community that the GalNex does. Besides ROMs there are really good cases for rooting.

If I were in your shoes it would be an easy call just to get all the junk Verizon puts on there off. Root, install Titanium Backup, freeze all the V-junk and be done with it.

For me I have had my Play Store GSM from about and month and I just rooted this weekemd. I really wanted to keep it stock but not being about to turn on and off GPS in Tasker just bugged me one to many times last week.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will root by the end of the week. I just want to get the bloat off and install jellybean. After that, do I need to remove root or just leave it as is?

Most custom jb ROMs are prereooted, but if its not, its as simple as going back into recovery and reflashing the root zip

ChappellHeel,

I've been custom roming phones forever. The GNex is clearly the winner here, as Google is fully behind it with the AOSP.

Within hours of a custom ROM being released, the forum community here, on Rootz, and on XDA will have made it clear if the release is good or not. And with the major players (AOKP, Sorcery, Xenon, Bugless, etc) it's hard to go wrong.

I held off on rooting this phone because I kept hoping Verizon would wake up to supporting the Nexus concept. The final straw for me was in a Verizon store maybe a month ago, when a rep was selling a GNex and said, "Also, you get your updates straight from Google, so you always have the latest and greatest." At this point JellyBean had been available on AOSP for almost a month. I took her aside and scolded her when she finished with her customer, I was so mad.

Got home, spent about thirty minutes researching, another hour rooting and roming, and couldn't be happier with the extra features, customization, and overall smoother operation of my phone.
