Root I'm on 1.6 rooted... What do I need?

Right been out of the loop for ages since my phone got ran over but after fitting a new screen and digitizer it's working again so I need some help from you guys.

As title Im on a rooted 1.6 stock rom but want to have a play about and looking at what is about in the way of roms and rooting Im now lost on what to download and new ways of flashing roms as I am no techno geak and I still feel proud when I hit Control Alt Delete...

So whats the best roms and ways to flash 2.1 with multi touch and jit?

Also does a rooted 2.1 rom with multi touch and jit still do HD video and can I try out HD video and then root.

I feel a bit daft asking all this as I used to get called a guru on here but after a few months of not having the phone Im a complete newbie again

Found Binarys latest flash tool that seems to do a lot just about to download and try out.

So are you now sporting 2.1 or are you on one of the 2.2 custom roms? Didn't think the video was working on them but I am so not 'root savvy' and I don't have the excuse of being away.

Did you get your wifi problem sorted or has that been a casualty of war?

At the mo on a rooted generic 2.1 with jit and dual touch, going to leave it as is for a few days and test the HD recording and then play with some 2.2 roms, but still no wifi which is rather annoying as I would use my data allowance in a week trying out apps.

It wont even scan now after installing 2.1 might pop into the local repair shop and see what they say as it must be due to the incident just seems odd that with 1.6 it would recognise the router yet on 2.1 nothing... No idea how to set up a static IP? so guess Im buggered...
