okay sop im ready to root i was reading some stuff from roolers unlimited guide. so i understand how to root but my ? is there is alot of diff ways to root. by rooting to z4 what does that mean. and also ther are a alot of diff roms. by changing roms what is that doing for you. i hope im clear on this any hellp would be great

z4root is used to root stock Froyo. It's a one click app and works great. The Gingerbreak root exploit was used to root Gingerbread versions .588 and .591 only. There is currently no way to root the OTA of .596. If you want .596 rooted you will have to SBF back to stock Froyo, root it with z4root, install droid 2 bootstrap, and flash Team Black Hat's two .596 files.

Roms are basicly a custom OS built around Froyo and Gingerbread kernels. Because the bootloader is locked down, full custom Os's are out of the question so your only option is to flash one of the roms we have now to change the look, feel, and performance of the existing OS.

Maybe some time in the future. But right now no. Honestly though, with the ease of flashing TBH's already rooted version, there isn't a die hard need for a rooting exploit for .596. Someone may do it just for the kicks of doing it. But for now it's not a necessity.

Personally I think CM7 is a good month or more away from a full stable release. One thing I do not like is bugs. I am dying to try CM7 but I will wait till everything is working.
