I'm stumped - Please help me!

Hi folks. Well I am loving the switch from IOS to Android. The flexibility to root and get into everything on the phone is great.

I am also loving Tasker. However, I am still very low on the learning curve with the app. I am amazed at some of the forum threads I read about such cool routines that people have developed using Tasker.

My needs for the product at this point are still very basic. Nonetheless I still have trouble getting some things to trigger.

My current issue is this: I use Bluetooth two ways; connected to a power source and not connected to a power source. I want the phone set up differently depending on whether its plugged in or not when I'm in the car (not docked, just plugged in, like into a cigarette lighter connector).

So I set up a Tasker profile which is supposed to trigger when 1) Bluetooth is connected to my car stereo system, and 2) Power is connected (I started using AC setting and then changed it to ANY).

No matter what I do the profile never triggers. I can't think of anything else to try. I know that when I get into the car, it can take a minute or two for the bluetooth to connect. In the meanwhile I have plugged the phone into the cigarette lighter port. I have even tried disabling Tasker and reenabling it to see if it would trigger once I knew the bluetooth was connected the the power was connected and the profile still didn't connect. It seems so simple yet I can't seem to get it to work.

I am using a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4. Can someone please take the time to help me understand what I could be doing wrong? I would appreciate it so much.

Second quick question: It seems to me that Tasker doesn't have a feature for compount triggers using 'OR' instead of 'AND'. Am I missing something?

Please help me. It's the only way I will ever be able to stop being a newbie with Tasker and will be able to help other people in the forums.

Thanks all ............. Rob

Post the description of the profile (not the XML)

And no Tasker can't use OR with separate contexts. Just have to make separate profiles.

I don't get an Export option. When I click the three dots the only option listed is Select All.

UPDATE: It's weird, some of my profiles have the export option and some don't.

Sorry but I'm having trouble pasting a screen image into a post. But I'll copy what I see because I really need help with this and don't want to give up because I'm having trouble with the copy/paste. I don't know why some profiles have the Export option listed and some don't.

At any rate, here is what I have:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bluetooth Connected Kenwood BT CD/R-6P1,00:26:7E: DC:A7:5B

+

Power Any ---> Audio Menu

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Audio Menu calls up a menu that I built using a scene that lists my music apps to select. The menu works fine but I can't get the profile to trigger so the menu will be shown. I was concerned that somehow the menu was causing the issue so I changed the associated task with several other simpler tasks and that didn't change the profile not triggering.

I'm so frustrated with having so much trouble with such a simple profile. I really need guidance please.

Thanks ........ Rob

If you take away the Bluetooth context will this profile trigger? And visa versa with the Power Any?

OK, good suggestion. I don't have the answer to the issue but I have some more info. First I removed the Bluetooth context and just left the power Any context and the profile triggered immediately. Then I put the Bluetooth context back and took out the power Any context and the profile did not trigger even though the Bluetooth was connected to the car. Then I turned off the Bluetooth on my phone, waited for about 15 seconds, and then turned it back on. When the Bluetooth connected to the car again, the Bluetooth context triggered the profile.

I don't know what all of this means. I would presume that the Bluetooth Connected context means just that, not that it has to see the Bluetooth connect. I don't really see any other Bluetooth context besides the ones relating to whether Bluetooth is on or off (I always have it on).

Does this help anyone to be able to advise me as to what's going on.

Thanks ............... Rob

I had a similar issue with an unpowered dock.

Iirc this is how I solved it.

I don't keep bluetooth on all the time, so I had to get around this first.

Used an NFC sticker on the dock to turn on bluetooth as soon as the phones placed in it.

With bluetooth on, use the State>Net>B/T status trigger = On

So your two profiles would look like this

Profile BTP (bluetooth with power)
State>net>B/T Status 'on'
State>power>'any'

Task BTP

Profile BTWP (bluetooth without power)
State>net>B/T Status 'on'
State>power>'any' +tick invert (to mean none)

Task BTWP

I can get you more info later if needed as it was set up on the mrs phone not mine.

I also used an inverted 'wifi connected' trigger so when the phones out of range of the home wifi it'll trigger

Thanks for the suggestion. Strangely my profile has started working properly (but for how long?). I am saving your info because that will definitely be plan-b. I have never used nfc stickers. something new to learn about :-)
