Imaging the ERIS?

Here is a question I am not sure has been asked. Is anyone aware of a way to image your phone in it's current configuration much like one might use Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage on a PC? If this an old question, I am sorry but I didn't see it - you can point me to a thread and I'll definitely check it out. Otherwis, I'd be very curious to see responses.

There is a way of doing it, but it requires you to root the phone. Once you have root access you install amons recovery image and from there you can make a nandroid backup. But you must have root access, its one of the main reasons i decided to root my phone.

I promise I will Google this, but just for everyone's edification, does the Nandroid backup capture an image of your OS and settings/data as it currently is? Then can you flash another image, decide you don't like it, do a Nandroid, and be back to where you where before you flashed with all of your settings/data intact?
