Imaging The System?

I'm groping around in my new Galaxy Note and Kies.

Kies is talking about backing up data, but I do not see anything about backing up applications or the state of the system.

Also, my first Kies backup attempt just threw "Not enough storage space on the PC. Check the amount of space available and try again." The space available is about three terabytes, since Kies aims itself at "MyData" and my MyData resides on a NAS box.

Sounds like Trouble in River City to me.... like maybe Kies needs some work...

Back to the topic: is there any way to just take a complete image of my device - comparable to imaging a Windows System drive... and have something that I can restore if the device falls overboard or something and I have to start over with a virgin box?

If you are trying to back up everything you could try DataSync. It's pretty good when it comes to games if you want them on your next device. And yes there is, you can create complete backups with Clockwork Mod, i think your phone needs to be unlocked though.

The only way to get a complete system image is a rooted phone then an Nandroid backup.

I come away from reading a little bit on "Rooting" with the impression that it's a power best left out of my hands..... -)

Tangential question: Going back to the "Phone falls overboard in 200' of water" scenario. If I have a data backup, and can somehow remember all the apps that I have installed, can I set up the new phone without having to pay again for the apps? i.e. Does Google Play Store act like the iTunes Store in that respect: remembering my and my apps by UserID and not by my device?

I see something called "Remember My Apps" (http://tinyurl.com/d3hew3j) and that looks encouraging.... I guess that brings it down to whether I have to pay again.

Yes, the store has the paid apps tied to your account not the phone. And I prefer AppBrain App Manager for remembering apps.

I tried to find it, but no luck.

There three apps by AppBrain came up when I searched Play Store, but none of them seemed tb about remembering apps.

OTOH, when I Google, it looks like "Remember My Apps" is published by AppBrain....
