imessage on andorid

I recently moved over to Andorid, and I keep runing into situations where I sometimes regret it.
One of them is the ability to send pictures from texting via my wifi... (to not use up data, since I only have 300 MB shared with my dad)

I was going to run whatt'sapp or w/e but it costs a buck a year and frankly, screw it I used to have it free.

Anyways I stumbled on this:
iMessage on Android

I wanted to download it so i could use the messaging with my iPhone users (since yahoo messaging for iPhones SUCKS), but before you can download it, it tells you that you must play some casino game thing ...ummm....no.

Google hangouts is available for ios with similar functionality to imessages & facebook combined across platforms.

I'm in the same situation as OP. I use my itouch to imessage my apple friends over wifi for free since my cell phone plan has limited txt messages. I would like to stop carrying my itouch and only carry my phone with me.

Any app for my phone which behaves like imessages, which doesn't require my friends to install additional apps?

The problem isn't this end. The problem is that apple is closed and won't open things up - even though I think they said apple messaging would be open one day when they first released it.

Messaging over data mostly seems to be limited to people with similar apps using data to connect to people with similar apps on their device. Such as skype to skype.

So, best you can do is use an cross platform data messaging system like skype, Hangouts, whatsapp, etc.

I had a feeling that was the main reason why there are no apps for it.

Thanks for the reply! I guess I'll continue to carry my itouch with me, or ultimately get a plan with more txt messages.

One thing that I can say, everyone has Facebook, for the most part. Just message your friends through Facebook Messenger, it's free on wi-fi, like i said just about everyone has it, and chat heads are the tits ;)

I set Facebook Messenger to be my default txt app. As a result, I see all my FB chats and SMS in one app. Chats over FB when connected to Wifi would be "data free".

I also really enjoy that, when it's a FB conversation, I can switch to my laptop if I want and back to phone.. and back to laptop all without losing any part of the conversation.

Messenger is awesome, when I'm at my desk at work I keep it open on my laptop so I don't miss a message thanks to the little "bloop" sound that I hear each time someone texts me. Once everyone knows that messenger is the best way to reach you they will all fall in line :)

Where my house is, I get no data connection on metro pcs, so I have to rely on wi-fi based texting apps if I want even the slightest line to the outside world. Luckily metro offers a wi-fi calling app that uses your same phone number that users barely any battery at all, so I never miss a call either (if they add wi-fi texting at some point I'll be hooked).

I, like many people I know, have facebook and abhor their battery sucking app and refuse to install it. And back when I did have it, I remained hidden - as did many people.

But you are technically right that it is a cross-platform messaging client

I don't know about battery sucking, my battery doesn't drain any faster with Facebook installed or not installed. Plus with everyone knowing to text me through Facebook, I can go to airplane with Wifi when Wifi is available, and that conserves the hell out of my battery.

Facebook Messenger is a separate app from the Facebook app. You can install it even without having the main Facebook app on your phone.
